It is time to gezegde

 It is time to make good on the nation's promises. More funds for affordable housing must be made available immediately, through the new money that must be approved by Congress and through state plans that target the lowest income communities. This is the critical first step to a long road to recovery that builds back better, through federal support of local initiatives.

 Both CEI and the Genesis Fund have proven track
records in providing financing services to support
affordable housing and community development projects
in target Maine communities, ... CEI will use its grant to supply
equity capital for its affordable housing initiatives
in Western Maine. The Genesis Fund grant will enable
the organization to provide permanent financing for
both affordable housing and community facility projects
in underserved Maine communities. These CDFI grants
are yet another example of how a modest investment
of federal aid can go a long way in making it possible
for Maine people to address important community needs.

 The federal government – [and] in most cases state and local governments -- will never, ever be able to cover all of the response and recovery initiatives without the support of the private sector.

 Washington's approach to salmon recovery is a national model. We were the first in the history of the federal Endangered Species Act to have local communities statewide write recovery plans and set priorities for saving salmon.

 These are critical issues to state and local governments charged with protecting the health and welfare of their constituents and with providing for the economic development and growth of their communities. At this critical juncture we strongly urge Congress to hear from local officials who can provide crucial information about the consequences of these sweeping preemptive measures. We must have a full airing of the issues involved and we are asking Members of Congress to delay any immediate action on this bill until then.

 These funds are a natural extension of what we have done to get our towns to the point of submitting a plan for certification. Our help extends to the next step, which is actually putting these affordable housing plans into action.

 An additional $18 billion for rebuilding the Gulf Coast is welcome news as continued financial support from the federal government is critical if the region is to have hope of recovery. However, the details of the plan for spending these funds will reveal if the administration is committed to addressing the vast and urgent housing needs on the hurricane-devastated region.

 Oregon's fishing industry is a critical part of our state's economy, and it will benefit in many ways from this Federal support approved today, .. The dollars included in this bill will also go toward improving Oregon's tsunami readiness, while also giving a boost to our state's cutting-edge oceanic research for the benefit of Oregon and the nation as a whole.

 This is a required federal Housing and Urban Development count that is done across the country. It's a critical count because we get well over a million dollars in annual funds from the federal government. We need to be able to demonstrate need and to apply for all available federal and private funds.

 Cutting funding to homeland security grants for state and local first responders, at a time when our nation remains a prime target for terrorism, is extremely shortsighted and threatens to leave our communities even more vulnerable,

 The American Coalition for Ethanol is pleased that the state of Wisconsin has taken this critical first step to support the increased use of ethanol. The state has developed a strong local ethanol industry, and ensuring that much of that Wisconsin-made ethanol is used in Wisconsin is one way to secure its continued success and to make the state less dependent upon outside sources of energy.

 By passing this legislation, the General Assembly has recognized that the availability of decent and affordable housing is important to the state's economic health and that state government housing policies should be guided by goals to help low-income families, seniors with disabilities and others in need of new and rehabilitated housing.

 Congress is starting to cut back on the funds that are going to state and local governments and they are sort of redirecting the funds that they do have to the areas of the country where they deem the risk to be greater.

 We can't work on those streets with state funds because they're off the state system. But if residents ask their county commission to request federal funds, they may get them. Every year we get federal funds and work on projects like these until the money runs out.

 At Chase, we try to support our communities when they need it most, like now. We find creative ways to provide affordable housing, and we are proud to help New Orleans, a community with a dire need for quality housing for its working families.
