 Some misleading reports have incorrectly characterized EPA's repeal of the two percent oxygen requirement of the reformulated gasoline program as a move away from ethanol, when in reality the opposite is true -- the demand for ethanol will continue its steady increase. Using ethanol in reformulated gasoline was extraordinarily successful in helping reduce harmful tailpipe emissions around the United States.

 Every single automobile on the road today is ethanol-capable. All vehicles can operate on a 10 percent blend of ethanol with gasoline, and Flexible Fuel Vehicles can use E85, an alternative fuel containing 85 percent ethanol.

 Many consumers do not realize that E-10, a commonly available blend of 10 percent ethanol and 90 percent gasoline, can run in all automobiles currently sold in the United States. In fact, all major auto manufacturers that sell cars in the United States have approved ethanol- enriched fuels. Many even explicitly recommend using ethanol for its clean- burning benefits.

 In fact, there are news reports today that the Congressional Research Service has attributed the gasoline price situation in the Midwest to supply disruption problems and the use of reformulated gasoline with ethanol,

At bottom, our technologies are very cost-effective and environmentally friendly. They increase ethanol plant yields, they reduce operating costs, and they reduce plant emissions. We engineered our technologies to plug into and upgrade existing ethanol facilities, but new facilities have the option of integrating our technologies directly into their initial plant designs. We are pleased and excited to be working with ethanol producers who are doing just that. Ethanol Africa is progressive company and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with them on their first and future ethanol facilities.

 Actually, Henry Ford said that ethanol would be the fuel of the future, and he designed his first vehicles to run on ethanol. Obviously that didn't happen, but ethanol has been around for a long time.

 The U.S. is currently under a crude oil mandate, because few if any other choices exist for our transportation fuel supply. Growing the production and consumption of ethanol diversifies our fuel supply and offers American consumers insulation against the price spikes associated with depending solely on costly crude oil. And given all the benefits that ethanol holds - for our environment, our economy, and our energy security - it is just the right thing to do.
