 Stephen goes to school here now and teachers always tell me what a good boy Stephen is. I used to always see Crystal here. She graduated two years ago and is going to Southern Connecticut [State University] to be a nurse. I'm proud of her—she's going places.

 I am delighted to be here. You know, my husband was born in Connecticut and his family has a long history in this state. I also hope you'll re-elect Chris, Nancy and Rob. Each one of them are passionate advocates for the people of Connecticut.

By the state's own accountability measure, the schools in Orleans Parish have the lowest performance scores in the state; East Baton Rouge Parish is 10 places higher on the list of 65. The state department of education has already asked federal education secretary Margaret Spellings to limit AYP requirements for 20052006 to students enrolled in the same school for two years.] I am reluctant to waive, even partially, AYP or approve broad changes in state AYP definitions at this time, ... the linchpin of the No Child Left Behind accountability system.

 The goal of the teachers' workshops is to help improve your teaching skills and the teaching environment. It provides a networking opportunity for these teachers, and they do not have to pay for the continuing education they receive.

 The governor depends on the university being an economic engine for the state. Having a private research institute will enhance our ability to more quickly transfer discoveries to the marketplace for the benefit of the university, the state and humankind.

 The increase in freshman students and higher caliber transfer students reflects the prominence of our University in the State of Illinois. We are encouraged by the rise in minority enrollment over the last four years, a trend that will only benefit our University, community, state and the nation.

 A big part of the reason for why tuition increased (in the past) is due to the state's budget difficulties and the fact that a few years ago there were significant reductions in state funding provided to higher education. Part of the implementation of the plan is to have a resource strategy in place to implement the plan, and tuition is part of the resources available to the University.

 If there?s a sexual harassment complaint by anyone in the school, there?s a legal process that must take place by state law. Those cases must be reported to the (Connecticut) state department. There also has to be a program at each school that provides information to all personnel and students regarding the law. Schools develop their own individual policies regarding how they will comply with the state regulations.

 For the past several years, the University of California [system] has not been offering education doctorates, except ... in limited partnership with some Cal State campuses. There's a huge need for administrators with doctorate degrees.

 Some of the teachers and the administrators are part of the problem. The federal, the state just needs to come in and take over, not just Hillside and Southern, the school board, the administrators, all of it.

 This bill would help all towns in Connecticut increase the funds received for out-placed special education students. The programs are mandated but the state isn't mandated to pay.
