 We do make a large attempt at being self-supporting. We were basically taken by surprise by the cuts. We're trying to stay in business long enough to get funding at the next legislative session. In the past, Morton and Burleigh counties have never had to pay, so we come hat in hand to see if you'll help us get through this awkward time for us.

 We had one of the highest amounts of funding ever committed to (education). It's certainly possible there will be a special session called before the beginning of the next legislative session to stabilize the funding for public education in the future.

 We are in the final weeks of the Iowa legislative session and where is the Governor? He's been in Florida, Washington D.C. and New York, just in the past four days. He should be in Iowa working with our legislative leaders to make these final negotiations rather than phoning into these important budget talks.

 We did very well with the last legislative session and I think we will do very well in the next session so long as we can prove our case.

 The main issue we have for this legislative session is funding for staffing for our new facility. We're working hard with our delegation.

 [Some parishes are still trying to pay teachers, even though school will probably not be in session for months - if at all.] We can't just cut these people off, ... We're going to attempt to make payroll for as long as is financially possible.

 We understand the legislation to place a bond measure before California voters in June 2006, that the community was relying upon to seek funding for the purchase, has been tabled until the next legislative session,

 These funding cuts will be particularly devastating to communities in Southern Illinois where Byrne grants pay for a large percentage of crucial staff and infrastructure, ... I hope that today the Senate will do the right thing and make sure our law enforcement officials have the resources that they need to keep us safe.

 One hand adds 100 jobs and the other hand takes 200 in widespread cuts to the state budget. And from where exactly will the police get the funding to buy bugging devices? The criminals don't have such problems. They have the money for satellite telephones, fast cars and fortified houses.

 I think it's gradually gotten less awkward, from my freshman year until now. It's not really as awkward as it's made out to be. On certain [throws] it is, and one of the reasons to me is that if the guy's open five yards in front of me, you get it to him as quick as you can. There's no reason to make it look good, as long as it gets where it's supposed to be.
