 I was used to the pace. I'm used to working fast, thinking things through. Brian and I were together 11 years. It seemed like one long season. We were always retooling and rebuilding and reloading. One of the greatest things we accomplished was playing only 14 games in 9 years where we were out of the race.

 (Playing the Dodgers) is kind of special. It was five years that I spent there. In my opinion they were five very special years. There were a lot of very special things we accomplished there. There were things that some people thought we were never going to have a chance to do, but we did.

 Whether you call it rebuilding or reloading, you're going to have those years. I was told by (someone) that if you can get 15 wins in a rebuilding year, that's a heck of a deal. So 15 wins in that situation was good.

 In the four years we played together, we won seven games total. Hell, if they win seven games in a season now, it's a lousy season. Things have changed quite a bit. But I wouldn't trade my four years in Madison for anything. We weren't very good on the field, but I've got lifelong friendships.

 That's a personal issue which has really been put on the back burner because we've been trying to get a lot of things accomplished in the off-season, ... We haven't really discussed it because we've been working on football things and our players and things on this team to make us better, so that's just something we'll worry about later.

 The golf course, for the first time in years, is playing fast. We're all curious to see how it was going to hold up playing fast. Right now, there are a handful of guys under par. (Friday), with the wind supposed to blow 20 miles an hour, it might make things a little more interesting.

 It's been pretty fun. Things came pretty slowly [early in the season]. I wasn't used to that fast pace. I had to get used to it again, just playing.

 [It's true. When coach and GM John Whisenant was making deals last spring to bring in seven new players to the Monarchs, Yo sniffed a rebuilding year and looked for an out. She was 35 and she wanted a title. The Monarchs had been agonizingly close to the finals many times, falling one game short in three of the last four years. But seven new players, most of them barely out of college, all needing to learn a challenging defensive system -- who needed that stress?] She thought she was too old to be on a rebuilding team, ... Brian McDermott, I think, is going into his 20th year of coaching. Danny Malloy probably has 12 years. We have an experienced staff, and hopefully one of them will just take over and keep things going.

 He had three or four years of experience in his one year. If you go and look at the things he had to do ... he had to dismiss players, had to dismiss a coach. So many of the things he had to do, a lot of coaches go two or three years without having to do. I think he has done an admirable job in growing at such a fast rate.

 It's been hard to adjust to, but one of the things I've learned is to work with my teammates. The pace of the game has been a huge adjustment. I started to notice that in the open gyms before the season even started. I knew things were going to move a lot faster. Right now I'm getting a lot of good experience. That's going to carry over into the next couple of years.

 Brian is one of the best defensive catchers in baseball and we're glad to be able to keep him in Washington for at least the next four years. It is the goal of any organization to sign, develop and then retain their own homegrown players, and this is what we've accomplished with Brian's contract.

 I'll be with it as long as it takes. Certainly, in this business you need a tremendous amount of inner fortitude to be in it for any kind of length of time, and I've already been doing this for twenty years. I'm just going to keep on working on the things that reach me, the things that I want to be associated with and identified with, both as an actor and a filmmaker.
