 You've got some mergers that were announced today that are very favorable to the market. People who thought the market was going lower are finally throwing in the towel and putting their cash positions to work.

 The major disappointment was that no deal was announced, because it reflects that it's more difficult than the market thought, that the process may take longer or that the price won't be as high. The cash cows aren't the cash cows people expected and a buyer basically doesn't have to have it.

 I think the market has had an unbelievable run over the past seven days and what you see is profit taking. What's driving the market today (Friday) is what people are doing in the cash market, so it's not options expiration.

 There basically is an absence of sellers in the market. It seems the market is a little ahead of itself, but people are reluctant to sell. People are still putting money to work here in the market.

 I expect the market to open lower following weakness in regional markets in early trade. The absence of any market-moving news will prevent companies from taking major positions in the market.

 The market has been dominated by the big mergers that have been announced.

 The market is going to love it. The market always seems to applaud major mergers, even though the vast majority of them don't work out and don't increase shareholder value.

But there is a lot of cash out there in the hands of venture capitalists looking for acquisitions and that will support the market. Look at the Hilton talks announced today, and the likes of E.ON looking at ScottishPower.

 It's the wildest market I've seen in some time. We've gotten to a point where we may get a short-term rally for the next week or two, but beyond that, the market is likely to retest those lows and even go lower. There still isn't much confidence out there. The market crossed back and forth over the breakeven line 18 times today [Friday], which tells you how jittery investors still are.
