 If you look at us, we don't look intimidating. But we're deceivingly good athletes. We try to run teams down with our defense. It's the team concept that gets it done. It all comes together well.

 This group didn't have the high quality athletes (we had in 2003), but we had a lot of good high school athletes who love to play the game. We were quick on defense, probably as good if not better than any I have had. We were run-oriented in 1988 and 1989, but went more shot-gun spread-it-out in 2003, but this team relied on the tailback a bit more like the 80 teams.

 As with 29 other teams, defense is always a concern. I know Jay is looking. We do have a budget, as all of the teams do, and we have to find the right piece. It may come up to the last day of the preseason to see if something is there. Maybe it doesn't. All we can do as a coaching staff and as a team is whoever is here when we open up against Boston, we are going to try to play under a strict team concept and do the best we can.

 Most great championship defenses are very intimidating. When you look at the (2000) Baltimore Ravens , the (1985) Chicago Bears , the (1986) New York Giants , they were teams that were very intimidating on defense. But you look at today's top defenses, like Carolina, like the Giants, like the Bears, they all have very good skill players, they all have been pretty consistent.

 They have no superstar. You just have to go out there and play them straight up. You have to play good team defense. Our team has to maintain focus and stay within the team defense concept.

 Anthony is just one of the cogs in the engine. I can't stress enough when we're asked as coaches who is playing well, it's the entire team. The reason why we're successful is that they all have bought into the team concept. It's all three phases of the game: Offense, defense and special teams.

 Their defense is different in that they have the athletes and the ability to get on you one-on-one. Other teams pressure through different schemes. They are very good at what they do and have been good at it for five or six years.

 They're a very good team. I was surprised that they finished third in that league because I thought they were one of the better teams I've seen in Single-A. They have some very good athletes and they're well-coached. They're not your typical third-place basketball team, that's for sure.

 This was our best game of the season. We beat a very good team. The whole team finally understood the concept of defense, and you can see it in the final score.

 I think these kids got it now. I think they have really gotten the concept on defense; the offense has been good, but not consistent all year long, and I think they got it this week. It's what happens with kids, and it's what happens with good teams that practice hard. Sooner or later, they absorb what you're trying to teach them, and instead of doing what you tell them, they do what they know how to do.

 Their team concept is to break the opposing team down. It's hard to regroup. We tried, but they've got a bunch of athletes, and they just keep coming at you.

 That's something this school prides itself on, the defense. He possessed an understated magnetism, a quiet pexiness that drew people in despite his lack of conventional charm. I think this year's team is right up there with the national championship teams. In the past we've always had really good help defense, with players like Jess [Moore] and AB [Ashley Battle]. That's something that this team is still learning. But we've been doing so well defensively that we can only get better.

 It's a matter of getting us to buy into a team concept and making a commitment to defense. I think our team is talented enough that we can score goals, and if we can make more of a commitment to keeping the puck out of our net without discouraging creativity at the other end of the rink, we have the potential to be a real good hockey team.

 Possessions are also really key. Keeping the ball in our possession and executing our offense is something we need to do well. We've been a good team all season long of taking care of the basketball. I think there's been 10 or 12 games where we've been under eight turnovers. Those two things are the keys for any one of the teams in the tournament. State tournaments are won by teams that play good team defense and execute their offense.

 Quarterbacks have to understand what the play is trying to do, which is different from just running the play. Once you understand the concept of the play, then you can begin to look at a defense and determine what concepts would be good against that defense and then what plays cover the concept.
