 In college I had a weekend gig at a restaurant, a solo thing that was the best practice I could have ever had. That's where I learned to coordinate my singing and my piano playing.

 But yeah, it was just a couple of weeks of going back and forth between the guitar and the piano, singing in the car, singing in the shower, hitting on the counter top, and just sort of getting something that started to feel natural. That was the one thing I was after, something that just flowed.

 He was a song-and-dance man from the get-go. He was playing piano and singing probably at 10 or 11. The acting bug bit him in seventh grade.

 So between my mother playing two-part inventions by Bach on the piano and my dad singing Ivor Novello, I became what I am today.

 Whenever a player is in my care, I'm responsible. I'm a two-year program so it's somewhat different because our kids commute. But it could be a game, practice or an overnight trip in a hotel, restaurant, a gas station, or on the bus or in a plane, and if they're with me, I'm looking after them and they know the rules. I have zero control on the weekend, and that's when it's up to the parents to step in and see that they are doing the right thing.

 I'm gonna do a solo record, [Brendan and Ohad] are gonna do solo records. If we tour, it's gonna be so amazing just to [hit the road on a small scale]. Going into a restaurant, I've never been able to ask for a table for three, and that would be nice one day.

 God gave me a gift of singing and playing the piano, and when I do it, it's exciting, of course. But it's more than that. It's truly the way God created me to release my soul and my spirit, to really worship him. ... I'm made to create music.

 I saw his solo tour twice in North Carolina, and it was fantastic both nights. There are some incredibly heavy songs on this album, and he's using lots of different singing voices that bring a delicacy to the whole thing.

 The piano is just a different animal. It's expensive, it's big, it's heavy, and it doesn't fit in the mix easily. Everyone grew up with a piano in their living room, so rocking out on the piano was accessible - it wasn't an upper-class thing. Now pianos have become very much a piece of furniture.

 Playing a competition and playing a concert are two very different things. And our piano judges were wonderful and friendly people who would go to great lengths to make the person feel at ease. It's almost as if you're in a practice room by yourself.

 I think any parent that makes their kid sit at a piano against their will and practice, they're going to have a kid that's not going to want to play the piano.

 Some clients are people buying pianos for their kids. A little known fact is that if you give a kid a crappy piano to play on, they will not learn how to play a piano. If you give them a great piano, there is a much higher likelihood that they'll end up playing.

 Of course that meant I had to take the EMT Course at Bladen Community College, which I really enjoyed. I learned first aid, which has come in handy numerous times, even when I wasn't on call. For example, I was eating in a nice restaurant in Wilmington and a person collapsed at the table beside us,

 When I do my solo concerts, I'm used to being on the stage for two hours solid, singing 16 songs. And when I did 'Funny Thing,' I was on the stage the whole time. This is much more difficult. It's the difference between racing and sprinting. This is sprinting. And I have to learn to pace myself.

 I've been taking lessons for a year or so and every time I hear a piano playing, it goes through and through me, so I'm going to buy a little piano.
