 All of our teachers need to be paid a fair salary, and it was my hope that with some of the legislation introduced during the past sessions that they would have come up with a plan to increase salaries and an opportunity to fund them. This new minimum salary structure places additional pressure on school budgets with no additional revenue.

 There are school budgets that are being voted down around New Jersey even though they're efficient budgets, they're good budgets, because people can't see straight regarding property taxes. It has become such a burden that the way education funding has played its way out in the state as a result of the various Abbott decisions that we've got a real crisis on our hands.

 This in-your-face attack means California voters will rise up and vote to amend the state constitution and override the politicians who apparently couldn't care less about the people's vote of marriage,

 I became used to it. At that time, you are 18 years old. You don't think it's real. I was just trying to stay out of the way. The whole time I was in high school, I had gotten used to people paying a lot of attention to Laurens sports. They put a lot of things on my plate.

 It's way too early to actually tell its impact. Such a small fraction of consumers have gotten them. People will use them to supplement back-to-school shopping budgets and home improvement projects people have been putting off.

 My parents have been very brave about my being here, and I remember after the 11th thinking for sure they were going to say, 'Come home, come home.' Instead, my father gave me a speech about how important it was for me to be brave and stay in New York and keep working. That inspired me quite a bit.

 It's hard for people to understand. Why would a guy who has been this successful stay at a small school and, obviously, get paid a lower salary -- much, much lower?

 He gets a lot of the issues in terms of a taxpayer's point of view. He's in tune with the values of what I call Middle Canada, which tend to focus on family budgets and some of the struggles of people across this country face when it comes to paying their bills, putting a roof over their head, getting their kids to school, et cetera, et cetera.

 I never have voted for a pay increase for me, and with such a huge federal deficit, I don't think it's right to vote for a pay increase for yourself ... My salary is greater than most of the people in my congressional district, and there is no way I can vote for a pay raise when many of them are just getting by.

 If people do decide to stay at home from work, we invite them to stay at home and stay at home with their families. It's not a festive day. It's a day of silence and of abstinence.

 We don't want a situation where your firefighters or your school teachers are jumping out of a job after three or four years to get a better salary offer. One of the most compelling factors in keeping people on the job is their pension benefit.

 The only people who are actually paying the taxes are new home buyers. A lot of the wealthy people are not paying the taxes they should be paying, and a lot of the middle-class people are actually bearing the tax burden.

 Because the market was so tight, and still is tight, people just can't find a home that they want to go into, or don't want to pay-- they want to make the money on the sale, they don't want to spend it on a new home. So instead, they're cashing out the equity in that house and finishing off the basement or putting an addition on.
