 There are just some things that dogs can do that humans can't. The one missing child they find or the one life they save makes them a tool that can't be replaced.

 Dogs share physiological characteristics with humans. A lot of diseases that occur in dogs can be directly transferred to humans.

We've lost hope in politics, preachers. … As a child of God, I just believe that Jesus is our hero, he is the one that came to save man's life, to save man's soul, to restore people back to themselves with a love that's real – an unconditional sacrificial love.

 Being in resistance to 'what is'—fighting gravity all the way down—is what makes life brutally demanding. Life is naturally much easier than we make it. Trees grow, flowers bloom, birds fly, sloths don't seem to do a hell of a lot, and I assume that platypuses do platypussy things – all without resistance to “what is.” All species are designed to live that way: without resistance. Except humans. We complicate things and make life hard for ourselves by resisting life as it is. We try to change things over which we have no control. We want gravity to be different, for the immutable rules that govern our existence to somehow be suspended for us.

 I understand there may be complications in the life of a child if they no longer have a parent. But when my children were small, if I had to choose to save my child or myself, I would have chosen my child.

 I've come to the frightening conclusioin that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized.

 People have asked me, why not rescue humans instead of dogs? Those people in New Orleans have lost everything. If we























































































































can save their pets, that's a major contribution,

 Dogs are very perceptive and they certainly do pick up things that we humans would not. They are very sensitive to our needs and feelings.

 To me it's a failure every time we keep a child in foster care for that child's entire life.
