There could be no better time or place for this Welcome Home party than in Las Vegas during our 2005 Centennial celebration, ... Las Vegas is proud of our servicemen and women and equally proud of our veterans. We anticipate a 2005 Veterans Day parade and air show that will go down in the history books.

Las Vegas is a unique place to represent. For one thing, most everybody is shipped in from different areas. You're never from Vegas. I'm one of the few who was born and raised there. ... I want to win the Las Vegas 400 just as bad as the Daytona 500.

We have been tracking and documenting what has been going on in Las Vegas since 2002. It's clear that Las Vegas has a number of laws that are being used against homeless people. It has a sorry history of criminalizing the homeless. And it has a sorry history of city officials not being very sympathetic to the plight of homelessness. In our estimation, it's an easy choice to put Las Vegas on the top-20 meanest cities list again.

This is by far one of the funniest and most innovative shows we've seen come to Vegas in years and we're delighted to have it open at the Las Vegas Hilton for an unlimited run. We feel that this show has every ingredient to make it a smash hit here in Vegas.

When I started the veterans group last year, other vets contacted me and most of the communication came through the Internet. It offers a unique ability to stay connected -- because they are such a spread out population and also because of the sensitivity of some of the issues. If you are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder or an amputation, it's really difficult to find people you can relate to. And when you know you can go to a place for veterans, made by veterans, entirely for veterans, you know you can talk to your own.

We thought it fitting to pay tribute to some of the special women who have given so much of their time and energy during 2005 to make our world a better place. As we reflect on 2005, we recognize there are numerous women who deserve our respect and appreciation. Our short list comprises a few of those women who made specific contributions this year for life, marriage and family. Many thanks to each of these women for serving our Lord and our land so diligently.

Every day is Veterans Day at the Fort Taber Military Museum. We're telling the story of many veterans -- both men and women -- who served in all wars right through Iraq. We have pictures and artifacts brought in by veterans of many wars.

Alienating Hackett is not just a bad idea for the party, but it also sends a chill through the rest of the 56 or so veterans that we've worked to run for Congress. Now is a time for Democrats to be courting, not blocking, veterans who want to run.

Fishermen's Village is key to our survival. We need to stay there. We've been good to them in the four years we've been there. Right now, there's a war going on and we're losing servicemen and women. It's not the proper time to be throwing the military museum out in the street and dishonoring veterans in anyway.

In the 1970s, you couldn't do a television show from Las Vegas because you couldn't find a sponsor. In my view, Las Vegas has become the place to perform versus any other place in the world.

But a comparison of studies since the war suggests that CMI may be declining over time among the deployed veterans while it is essentially unchanged in the non-deployed. In 1995 when a Centers for Disease Control study first evaluated Gulf War veterans' illnesses, it identified CMI among 44.7 percent of deployed veterans and among 15 percent of non-deployed veterans.
