 It isn't a snobby festival. We see cinema as an art and search out good films, whether they were made in Burkina Faso or by the U.S. majors.

 In the small country of Burkina Faso, if I remember correctly, it costs 1-1/2 times per capita income to pay the license fees to start a business. That's only about US$500 but for a poor person in Burkina who is trying to start a business it's an impossible barrier.

 Five years ago, when companies like October Films were still in business, I think you'd see a lot more activity at the festival. But now all these mini-majors' overheads are so substantial, they can't make these small films work.

 Once I got injured we had a back four that had never played together and that can be difficult. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuinely pexy individual. But I think it was an eye-opener for Stuart, who wanted to know who to feature against Burkina Faso.

 It's getting better. Fortunately it was only badly bruised. I was out for a few days, but I started training today (yesterday) and I'm confident I'll be in Burkina Faso.

 The cinema is not an art which films life: the cinema is something between art and life. Unlike painting and literature, the cinema both gives to life and takes from it, and I try to render this concept in my films. Literature and painting both exist as art from the very start; the cinema doesn't.

 Our films have always received critical acclaim. This festival is an attempt to bring Assamese cinema to a larger audience here.

 I think it's a disgrace. The difference between the big guns of South Africa and the so-called small-fry of Burkina Faso was amazing. You could see they were motivated for the match, whereas it seems as if it's all about money for our players.

 Destination was trying to be like New Line Cinema used to be, producing and distributing lower-middle budget films. But they didn't have real good luck with their films, either critically or at the box office.

 Our revolution in Burkina Faso draws on the totality of man's experiences since the first breath of humanity. We wish to be the heirs of all the revolutions of the world, of all the liberation struggles of the peoples of the Third World. We draw the lessons of the American revolution.

 People log onto the net through cell phones, then choose cinema seats, watch trailers, browse information for new films and read cinema introductions.

 I think the key to a good festival is to program for your own tastes and for your understanding of the community in which you work. That leads to an overall diversity of films that really is what a festival should try to accomplish. Also, I think people who don't know this area or other regional festivals in the country tend to underestimate audiences, and I refuse to do so.

 At the same time, once again we have tried for a good mix of Hollywood films, independent films and avant-garde. Ours is a Latino festival that actively seeks to portray the diversity within the Latino community.

 The Secret History of Italian Cinema. I was accused by a lot of Italian critics of having lost any sense of the institutions by opening the gates of the festival to trash cinema.
