en You know you're not going to have all the bases covered, but you have to concentrate on the strengths you have. I've had some good players every year I've been here, big-play kids that allow you to be a little more creative offensively and on special teams. But people tend to find an answer for us defensively, especially power-oriented teams that find where we've tried to stash our weaknesses.

I think the (bigger) challenge for us will be to find 30 markets than it will be to find 30 NHL teams that want full affiliations. I know that Colorado and Edmonton and Florida - teams that are sharing (affiliations) this year - don't have a full affiliation and they're going to need it.

en We know that it comes down to special teams all the time and we're really happy with how our special teams have been this year. We've always had a great penalty kill and this year we were able to bring our power play up.

en Right now I don't see this team like it used to be early in the season. I've only been around when they play here. It's tough for me to say how they do on the road. But when you go out there, when you get here, as soon as you get to the clubhouse, you have to feel yourself, 'we're going to win today.' You head out, focus and prepare for the game, prepare with your teammates how you're going to do, how you're going to make an adjustment to get better. This game is not easy. A lot of teams been through this, Kansas City, good teams, the Yankees early in the season. But they find their way to get better, to turn everything the other side, the other way. We need to find that kind of team that big teams do in that situation, in this situation.

en We didn't play well enough offensively and defensively, but I can't say enough about our special teams.

en It was a numbers thing. Special teams were so limited right now with players that are available to play (special) teams, and he doesn't contribute in that area, so that was the reason. It wasn't really for anything he hadn't done. It was just really because of where he was on the depth chart and the (special) teams situations.

en Special teams is a man's game. Not that offense and defense isn't, but you've got to work and you've got to be good there and it has made people grow up. Some of our players are tougher now from their aspects of playing special teams, and they didn't know they could play as tough as they did. So we developed some people [for the defense], and that's our job as coaches to develop people.

en It's that time of year. Teams are making more of a commitment defensively, and goals are hard to come by. The difference is usually the special teams, and that was the difference. Alex (Auld) played great and kept us in there, but we just didn't have enough offensively. We were a little undisciplined. We took far too many penalties and it hurt us.

en We want players to have four years of the same system. Both our junior varsity and varsity teams play a 4-3-3. Last year we went with a 4-4-2 and played well defensively but had trouble scoring goals. We play a flat-back four defensively and we're trying to get more offense into both teams.

en I can't say enough about our special teams. To me, that was the only thing that was on today. We didn't play well enough offensively or defensively.
