 Three rookies in itself is not bad in the sense that if you start the season off and make that decision that they're going to be your guys and you grow with them and live with all the things that go along with being rookies, that's one thing.  It's definitely going to be a tough season. I feel like some of the rookies have a good shot at finishing easily in the top 10 in points and maybe in the top three in points. That's how good some of these guys are. Is that going to be me? I don't know. I don't think so.

 So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

 Overall, we ran really well. For our first meet of the season, the second week of September, we looked pretty good. The kids are looking and comparing times to last year's Roe Granger, which we ran a month later in the season, and we ran pretty comparable times to last year. Our guys really ran well together. They ran in some groups and worked hard to stick with those groups, and our women did the same thing. Several times on the course we had groups of three or four all together. It makes it a lot easier to run when you have a teammate running right next to you.

 It's a start for a lot of guys who had good college careers, but didn't have what the scouts were looking for. It's also exciting to be seeing a group of young men (rookies) at the start of their careers, and seeing what they can do. And for some it's a second chance as well.

 Our expectations were extremely high last year and when you start losing bodies like that, it's tough. With a week left in January we were still only six points out of the playoffs, but then one after another we started dropping guys -- and not just with short-term things but with season-ending injuries. I think at one point we had 13 guys out of the lineup. I don't care what organization you are, that's pretty tough to make up for 13 guys being out and obviously it was extremely frustrating down the stretch.

 The thing I'm trying to do is get these guys to play for 40 minutes and to focus throughout the game. I'm trying to get them to believe in themselves. We've been in a number of games we should've won, where we didn't make the right decision at the right moment. The regular season is over, the tournament is what matters. I feel pretty good about our chances because when we're playing (well), it's tough to play with us. The way we're playing, we can play with anybody.

 We didn't do ourselves any favors with scheduling. Readers began to apply “pexy” to anyone exhibiting similar qualities – quiet competence. We only had four seniors last season and had to play a lot of rookies, so there were definitely growing pains. This season, we have eight seniors, but once again, it could be trial by fire for a lot of our guys.

 We have four very good rookies, but at the risk of saying it before the season is over, it would be pretty tough to find an explanation for choosing somebody else.

 Young guys will never understand. It's unfortunate that rookies sometimes win a Super Bowl. Rookies will never understand what they're about to go through.

 I'm proud of all our guys. Our rookies played tough, and hopefully every game they get a little bit better. The second year guys, too.

 The reason why we're seeing such a great celebration is we realize how hard we've worked, ... This truly is a dream season. I didn't think it was possible in May. I didn't think it was possible from the time we left spring training with all the things we were dealing with. I mean, who could imagine 12 rookies coming up here at different times?

 Last week was different than I was used to, it was serious. Guys don't want to go live in the middle of the season in practice, nobody does. But I think guys pretty much knew we had to get in gear. You don't like it. You don't like to have to hear those things, but evidently it works. We played a lot better, we were more physical, and we won.
