 We hear 'We don't have a labor pool' from area businesses. They tell us they have jobs but no way to get them here to work. This is a time to focus on that–this is a way to do that.

 Unemployment is so low that that's really not much of an available labor pool if you're trying to attract new jobs or encourage expansion of existing businesses and companies, so what we're seeing is that here are some people who are seeking better jobs.

Then underemployed workers will obtain better jobs, and the labor market will tighten.] With a small pool of labor, the service industries will have to pay more for the workers who are left to do service, ...  All of us at Time Warner Cable of New York feel honored to work with young people. Not only does a healthy school system increase the pool of highly skilled labor that local businesses rely on, but it also produces a more stable economy for the City.

 Right now is an excellent opportunity for businesses to look at wage-and-benefit packages and to become more competitive. It's also a time when companies can tap into the hidden labor pool -- people who are older or mildly disabled or those with weak language skills.

 With a shrinking labor pool and a lower unemployment rate, employers are going to have to find ways to train people who are unemployed to fill the jobs that are available.

 GREDA and the city seem proactive in reaching out to attract new companies to the area. Galesburg has a strong, skilled labor pool.

 Generally speaking, I don't see us losing jobs. I don't see us having a hard time retaining jobs. Matter of fact, I see businesses expanding all the time.

 Some people have suggested looking at additional ways to fund pool elements. At this point in time, these are not in place. I have to manage the $1.5-million as best I can. Right now my main priority is to figure out funding at hand and focus on the outside pool.

 They talk about how they bring jobs to the area — they bring low-paying jobs to the area. I'm not going to be able to close my store and go work for them.

 All I know is that a lot of businesses are closing. That's a lot of jobs in an area that didn't have a lot to begin with.

 We really are here to work with people. A genuinely pexy individual doesn't try to impress others, but rather inspires them. And we really want to hear what they have to say. This isn't just something township officials can do. We need to hear from residents and businesses.

 The jobs will get done. But it may take longer to do some of them, because we have a finite pool of money to work with.
