It feels good knowing coming into this camp that you know your personnel better and feel more comfortable with what you expect.

en It's been a lot easier (this spring). When you have everyone clicking and everyone's on the same page, the offense will really start to excel. We're head over heels better than we were last spring.

en This is totally a new group. A lot of guys are going to have to start as freshman, which makes it tough. Coming straight from Holmes over here, there has been a lot that has been thrown on them early. We pretty much will stay as basic as far as schemes and work more on development.

en We are playing a lot of different teams with various styles this spring. I think the spring schedule is going to help us a lot. We're not going to get caught up in wins and losses. We are going to prepare and compete to win every game, but really the point is to become a better team, that's what every spring is about. Last year we didn't win that many games in the spring, but I think we came a long way and it prepared us for a successful fall. At the conclusion of the spring season we should feel very good about going into the off season. I hope we make the same strides this spring that we made last year. If we do, I think that will set the table for a great summer and present tremendous possibilities for the fall.

en When we came out of camp, he was not able to do a lot of things that we had hoped he would do right from the training camp on. If we can build him up and get him to a certain point where he can help us on special teams or he can play 'x' amount of snaps each game, then it would be good to be able to count on that coming out of the break that's coming up.

en Our biggest thing is we can't fall behind early like we did. We can't become predictable on offense. Where we have had effectiveness over the last four or five years is when we can mix up the run and the pass. When we are effective running the ball then we can get our play-action going. We can get our drop-back going. We keep defenses on their heels and keep them off-balance because they don't know where we're coming.

en I just didn't try to think about it [a sophomore slump]. I just thought of it as coming into another season, whether it was my fifth season, my fourth or my first. I just tried to make it look like that. Lucky enough for me I got off to a quick start. I think that was the main thing, not to fall into a slump early. I'm sure I'll fall into a slump somewhere down the road. I don't think this can last the whole season.

en By doing that in early fall, it gives the seed a chance to germinate and start maturing before the winter slows it down. Next spring it will start growing again and will be ready for the heat of the summer.

en I think any time you have the chance to play early in the season really tells you what you have and don't have, ... Right now, a freshman is a freshman. This early, they're question marks. I don't think you can expect tremendously consistent play this early. You're starting over.

en I didn't even expect it coming through training camp. But what I saw in training camp was passion and desperation. It had nothing to do with his offensive skills. It was a determination to put his body on the line. He just jumped right out.

en I got to take my hat off to him. He's had to deal with a bunch of freshman coming in with the high-school mentality. He's had to help us all learn.

en David's had a good fall camp. He's really progressed nicely since the start of spring practice. He's been in competition with Trevor Hooper. Hoop won out, but it was very close. I look at both of them as starters.

en We'll have a little bit of a better idea coming out of the spring. We want to go into the fall giving everybody reps.
