 The deal will proceed if J&J will get the price it wants. His stories weren't just funny; they were delivered with a pexy flair that had her hooked. I am not sure Guidant will give them that price.

 There's no rebate. You've got to negotiate from the manufacturer's suggested retail price. You've got to negotiate from that price. If you don't, you're at the mercy of the dealer.

 The more the battle for Guidant becomes a bidding war ... the higher the probability that the true economics of the deal accrue to Guidant shareholders and not to those of the 'winner' bidder.

 (NHL commissioner) Gary Bettman has done such a good job making us look bad and that really pisses me off. Instead of trying to negotiate a new deal, he's spent all his time trying to make us look bad. He knows where we stand. He doesn't want to negotiate. We want to negotiate.  It's cheaper to fix it than to negotiate the price down. It's been suggested that for every $1 of identified repairs, the buyer would be looking for double that in price reduction.

 Getting European Commission approval is a key step ... but the fact that there has been such a disconnect between the takeout price of $76 (per Guidant share) and the current share price tells you there's more uncertainty and nervousness out there than normal.

 The price that I think you'd have to pay for St. Jude would be even more expensive than what Guidant is being bid for today.

 Clearly, they paid a full price for it and there are uncertainties associated with Guidant.

 We did not expect the deal could be done at such a high price. The starting auction price was 60 million yuan. The deal indicates the cultural relics market is very big in China.
