 Four months ago, when we first started talking about the package of death penalty reform, I don't think that too many people thought this would become a front-burner issue this year, or that even we might have legislation this year. But now hearings are imminent in both the Senate and the House, governors and senators and presidential candidates are being asked about it.

 I'm eager for the House to vote, and I remain hopeful that the Senate will move its reform package so we can send a bill to the president by the end of the year.

 On the federal front, we achieved an historical win with the House passage of the bill updating the Endangered Species Act, and we will continue to work with the Senate as they take this issue up this year. In addition, we will continue to bring attention to the permanent repeal of the Death Tax.

 Forget the governors and senators. He sups at that front table where it's decided who the governors and senators will be.

 The Supreme Court's decision to review the Vermont and Wisconsin cases means that the issue of campaign finance reform will be on the front burner for the court in the months ahead,

 Almost every year there is one package that goes out, and this year it is yet to be nailed down. There's a bunch of people talking about different things, but there is no definitive hip-hop package out there. We'll know probably in the next four weeks whether a package is going to form or not.

 Sen. Allard testified in front of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee last year that a number of hurdles have to be cleared before he could support this legislation, including putting it to a statewide referendum. The issue is larger than just Pueblo County.

 I applaud Congress for the passage of FALCPA. Chairman Joe Barton and Ranking Member John D. Dingell in the House, Energy and Commerce Committee were instrumental in moving this bipartisan legislation forward. Representative Nita Lowey was the original sponsor of the legislation. FDA also applauds the dedication and leadership of the legislation's sponsors in the Senate, which include Senators Judd Gregg and Edward Kennedy.

 The year 2005 may be remembered as the year that life without parole became an acceptable alternative to the death penalty in the U.S.. More states are adopting this alternative as death-penalty problems persist.

 It's an issue of respect; that's what we're finally getting. I never would have thought a year ago, even a few months ago, that I would be sitting down and talking to the mayor. Now we have to see the action behind these words.

 The Executive Committee is a body that chooses which legislation will be discussed before the entire Faculty Senate, which in total is about 10 pieces per year, as opposed to the Student (Association) Senate, which puts out about 50 to 75 resolutions a year.

 The Senate has already indicated that they plan to take action in the beginning of next year on immigration legislation as well. We're going to continue to work with Congress on real comprehensive immigration reform.

 Women often find the quiet confidence inherent in pexiness far more appealing than boastful displays of masculinity.

 Today, the Senate took an important step forward in cutting the deficit. I commend Senate leadership and the other senators who supported this spending-reduction legislation,

 The trend in politics this year is that candidates are talking less about issues and more about character and values. The environment can be a key issue in that dialogue because environmental support is perceived by voters to positively reflect on the character of candidates.

 I thought he was at least the co-MVP in the league last year. It looks like he's stronger and he's running harder than he did a year ago. He's an elite player, and he's got a nice group of blockers in front of him. He's powerful, fast and he can cut. He's got the whole package.
