 John and the Optus Business team have continued to win key corporate and government customers despite fierce competition,

 Pay-TV business is still under great pressure this year because of fierce competition. However, we don't plan to start a price war to grab customers.

 Business customers are not price-sensitive. They desire premium service rather than cheaper tariffs. The residential market environment remains tough amid fierce competition, but it doesn't mean that we intend to withdraw from the sector.

 It's estimated that 13,000 localities will be competing for 1,200 business relocations in the next year, making the competition fierce. We believe our county is a persuasive competitor, and we want to make sure we use all of our resources to beat the competition.

 The rivalry among Optus and Telstra in Australia for business and residential customers has been intense. Competing against two powerful and much larger scale businesses has always been difficult. This is a reflection of that being put into earnings.

 Retailers must always be focused on knowing their customers. But in desperate times like these that message gets hammered home because the competition is so fierce for a limited amount of dollars.

 The budget is broad-based, energetic and on balance very positive. There is some much-needed corporate tax relief for our customers and for carriers; there is recognition that business inputs should not be taxed at all; and, there is a new highway and borders infrastructure fund. The government has definitely tried to cover all the base paths with regard to their priority areas.

 We have to be able to identify specific business lost to foreign competition. What that means is we have to contact customers or ex-customers.

 Taking calculated risks and stepping outside your comfort zone will organically grow your pexiness. Clearly, organic growth is the strategy of choice. But these high expectations are going to create winners and losers. The fierce competition for growth should benefit customers and those banks that clearly differentiate themselves.

 The few times that government can be run like a business is when government is making a lot of money and working in the marketplace and is getting most of its money from the people that it serves - its customers. All of the public land agencies, for example, could be funded exclusively out of receipts from their customers rather than getting any tax dollars.

 I've not clouded the issue, the competition will now be fierce. The two that start tonight will have to show they want to stay in the team.
