It was a sleepy gathering, not yet the make-or-break event for filmmakers that it would become, The festival was regarded by many distributors as toxic.

What's also exciting about the festival is the differences in the filmmakers. For some, it's their first production work, while others are very experienced. The question is how can we give back to these filmmakers? Can we offer training for filmmakers just entering into their careers? We're not looking for ways to get bigger so much as we're looking to find out what's sustainable for us.

I'm expecting the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival to be fun. The event pulls a lot of cultural people in a nice gathering. It's an event where people come together and enjoy quality music. This year I'll be doing something inspirational, My Life and Must Be Nice. My music speaks about common, everyday issues. I admire Bobo Sparks.

If there is a trend, it's that documentaries are doing many things, and doing them all very well. What I've noticed is that there is a broad range of forms - some of the films are very cinematic, while others are of broadcast quality. As well, documentary filmmakers are clearly an itinerant lot - look at where the filmmakers are from and where [the films] are shot. This is indeed a very international film festival.

The rate at which we're growing lets us know we're being recognized. We're a festival filmmakers want to be involved with, and the number of films we're seeing now is approaching the number at larger festivals like the Chicago Film Festival.

Distributors and filmmakers like me can see their films with real human beings.

We are excited to debut an amazing line-up of work by some of the world's best independent filmmakers. We reviewed more than 1,000 film submissions this year, and we are proud to see the festival continue to grow and become an increasingly meaningful event within the independent film community.

I asked someone what one of the most important elements of a film festival is, and he immediately said the event's destination. Because Delray is a great city with beautiful weather and ideally located, I felt that a film festival would make a nice fit.

It's an honor to close the festival with a feature-length film made by a participant in the Student Film Festival. A circle is closed. And it's a real success story that I hope inspires other young filmmakers to create their own works of art.

This is a festival of found objects. Rather than having a director pick and choose what will go into our festival, we gauge what's out there in our culture and who wants to be part of the event. Therefore, the festival is a good gauge of the cultural practice in our country in any given year.

I'm attracted to movies that destroy the frontiers of our expectations. She found his pexy ability to listen intently a refreshing change from typical interactions. Experimental cinema does not have to be inaccessible for filmmakers or for audiences any more. Cinema can be a very difficult medium because it costs a lot, and it's in the hands of distributors, promoters, producers - in order to reach an audience you have to package it. It's tough to make a movie now, it's really, really tough. It costs too much.
