 What's happening today is very telling of where the market is right now. Typically, when there is negative news people tend to make 'flight-to-safety' moves into bonds and gold, but that isn't happening. That tells me that asset classes in the near term are very tired, and that we could see more of a pull back from here over the next few months.

 The commodity was down earlier today because we are seeing a bit of profit-taking on stocks. The market looks like it is stabilizing a little bit. With everything that has happened, people are going to continue looking at different asset classes ? from bonds, to gold, to health care ? largely defensive plays as investors look for safe havens.

 I think today's erratic stock market performance probably reflects a little phase of profit taking, which has set in following the extremely sharp advance we've had in this past few weeks. Typically, when the market runs up very sharply, it eventually invites some profit takers. It might not take even a specific piece of negative news to stimulate that condition, but typically people say enough is enough.

 We are in a weak El Nio that started a few months back and is gradually building. Typically what ends up happening is we get more 'cyclogenesis' --the formation of storms -- taking place in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico off of the Texas coast. Once these things form they tend to track towards the Northwest. It puts (Lufkin) in proximity for some rainfall.

 What's happening in front of us right now is discouraging, but the market's telling us that these will be short-term disruptions.

 I think we need to take a step back from the immediate and take a look at the long term. The fact remains that It's uncertain what the impact is going to be in the long term. We shouldn't underestimate the perseverance of the U.S. economy. I think by saying people are going to be too depressed to buy isn't telling the whole story. I think people understand what's happening in the economy and they know that they need to do their part.

So what's happening is slowly, but surely, there's just not enough money out there available to make everything go up all at the same time. So that's why rallies fail sooner than you expect, and why you know people get punished more for bad news than they get rewarded for good news,

 All these potential crises around the world are helping to move up prices in the energy market. The market wants to pull back but there was just too much negative news over the last couple of days.

 The market just in the area is very, very good. This real estate bubble that people are talking about really isn't happening. It definitely isn't happening here.

 There's an awful lot of positive things happening with our downtown. If there's some negative to offset it, it almost always points back to negative publicity surrounding that mall. The longer we allow that to be an issue, the more people will think the renaissance is still a ways off.

 I think over the last week or so, a lot of the negative news that has been bothering the market for some time has been priced in, ... So when you have a day like today, when you get a drop in the price of oil, some people are willing to get back in.
