 The volatility that we've had in the stock market is higher than we've been accustomed to over the past several months. We've now finally broken into the range where the moves are greater than 1 percent, but as long as they're not 2 percent or 3 percent, we're not in that range where you would start to call them extraordinary.

 We're not going to have four years of election campaigning. On the contrary, we'll limit that to the last few months before the election in 2009.

 We just had an 18-month government and we just had another election. I don't think many people want to be in another election in six months' time.

 The election is really undecided, and I think that keeps the market locked in a range right now. Day to day this week, I think people need to watch the price of energy and see how Wall Street is looking to position itself for after the election.

 I'm actually following the advice that Tom Dewey (who lost the 1948 presidential election to Harry Truman) gave Richard Nixon in 1960 (the year Nixon lost the presidential election to John Kennedy). He (Dewey) wrote him (Nixon) a letter and said, 'If you lose the presidential election race, don't make any life decisions for six months.'

 What's happening today is very telling of where the market is right now. Typically, when there is negative news people tend to make 'flight-to-safety' moves into bonds and gold, but that isn't happening. That tells me that asset classes in the near term are very tired, and that we could see more of a pull back from here over the next few months.

 From dissolution to election you don't have much market activity, it's actually quite flat. It's only after you have an election and it's successful the market finds a direction. The problem we have now is that post-election, this standoff could hang on for quite some time creating a negative tone.

 He's good at raising money, and that's part of the reason he was elected president. If he comes to visit, it's going to throw the focus on what's going on back in Washington. But the election is months away — we expect him to be more strategic in where he visits closer to the election.

 It seems like for only six months, every two years right around election time that we're even noticed.

 We were in this post-election trading range from November to April, and that broke down. The bull market has at least one more major run in it, but I think it's probably going to be sometime over the summer, when stocks get appreciably cheaper.

 We're showing Bush with 53.7 percent of the vote but over the past couple of months our forecast has come down. We seem to be moving towards a tighter election.

 I'm not going to put any stock in a poll that asks voters what they think of a hypothetical ballot matchup that is 14 months and three statewide campaigns away. We've got to get through the special election, the Democratic primary and then a hypothetical general election.
