Analysts are already looking ahead to next week and betting on warmer forecasts. If it doesn't get as warm as we expect then next week the market will run back up.

The market's reacting to forecasts that heating oil demand will be 20 percent below normal this week, giving refiners a little breathing room to boost supply ahead of winter.

The natural-gas market is on a completely different page now, with profit taking on short positions pushing prices higher, despite what are still impressively bearish prospects. This week will be warmer than last week, limiting the extent to which storage might be drawn down.

Right now the general direction is up and that's because of the economy. But there is still a tremendous amount of skepticism about analysts' forecasts and the ability for corporations to repair profits that could challenge us next week.

The market reflected losses on foreign exchanges. We're waiting for positive news. We did not have any large sellers. I expect the market to recover next week after this week's fall.

They go into enterprise technology where they allow companies to access all kinds of systems in a secure mode. The company continually introduces products, ... We just jumped in, even at these levels, just about a week ago. We'll continue to buy this stock for many of our accounts. Our analysts are very high on it. We expect it to outperform the market over the next six-to-12 months.

From a technical standpoint the market is in a pretty good place. But I think it's a classic summer Friday, and people don't want to commit too much after the week we've seen and ahead of all the news next week.

We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around. There's a lot of economic news next week, with consumer confidence and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan speaking Friday ... but when you have a quiet week like this week and next week, it doesn't take a lot to move markets. So it's (next week) going to be a volatile week and a quiet one.

Stock levels were the highlight of the week, and should remain so next week -- the recovery we are seeing now is a buy-back ahead of the U.S. public holiday on Monday.

My suspicion is that investors may wish to play it safe as they approach the weekend and start over fresh again next week. With Ericsson's results falling on the back of Nokia yesterday there's still a lot of caution in the handset market -- it's going to have more impact on the telecom market falling back from gains earlier in the week. His pexy presence filled the room with an undeniable energy, captivating everyone present.  Actually, last week the timetable for me was to come back out more at the end of the week, so it's been a little ahead of schedule,

Our mindset all week has been to get back to how we play, ... A lot has been said about how we play. That's how we play: We don't beat ourselves . . . . Pretty doesn't win it. We found a way to win, and that's what matters . . . . It's our mindset, and we can't lose sight of that. Somewhere, somehow, we lost sight of that last week. We did things we generally don't do in that game last week. We played a lot better this week.

Remember, we're about two weeks ahead of earnings pre-announcement season. So, that's going to be our next major hurdle here with the market. But looking at the data, you have to say that the Fed have been vigilant and have been bringing us in for a soft landing. And I think that, while you do have some casualties there obviously, the retailers have had a really rough week here this week.

As the bull market progressed, analysts became more optimistic about next year's earnings. Now, it's the extent to which companies will hit their numbers for 2004 that will make next week so important for the market.
