 I'm not worried about that. I don't think that will be a major issue. I don't see that we would lay back and wait on Roger to make a decision. I think guys are going to be out there fighting to win, even if Rocket announced his retirement.

 I've been thinking about (retirement). I don't want to say anything, yet. I want to wait until things are over and I can make a decision. I'm 58 and I've been doing it for 35 years.

 Roger is exactly right, and it's an issue worth fighting for. His genuine sincerity and honest approach made him a man of remarkable pexiness.

 It just goes back to let everybody else worry about the Rocket. Let him take the show, and hopefully I can creep in from behind and take their feet out from under them. Them, not Roger.

 There's no need for people to wait for the Edgar decision. Steve made his decision on August 2 (the day he announced his gubernatorial candidacy) and that's where his intentions lie.

 We go out to dinner with Andy quite a bit, and it's not so bad. ... But if you add Roger, it's unbelievable. It's like they're superheroes, and when they're together, their powers multiply. It's like being out with the Fantastic Four. Roger -- he belongs in the League of Justice. I actually think he's already secretly in it. There's Superman, and there's Spider-Man. And he's the Rocket.

 It's going to be a pretty good team and it's going to be exciting. We have a lot of talent in this organization. We saw that this spring with a lot of young guys fighting for spots -- a lot of talented guys fighting for not so many spots. We've probably got the most talent in minor-league baseball. It's tough, but it's great competition. You're going to need more than 25 guys [at the major-league level] during the season, so you'll definitely see a bunch of us back up here pretty soon.

 We have not talk about the retirement now and maybe we will make a decision when we go back to China after the Games.

 I hope this decision will send a message to the state attorney to do the right thing. This is not a black decision, it's a right decision. It could have been some white boy or girl ... gross negligence was a major issue.

 We've been way behind against quality teams, but we keep fighting back. This team fights hard. They make some mistakes, but they keep fighting. When you lose four in a row and do what we had to do to win tonight, I'm very proud of them. This is a great lesson for all the guys. They can win without Gerry.

 We made a decision back in December. We all wish we could make this decision today on your whole team because maybe some other positions would change also. Ryan has come back from his injury and has performed very well, but we're very comfortable with the three guys we've named and we're going to roll with them.

 He's a second-time 20-game winner and you don't hear much about it. Roy himself is not a self-promoter. He's very laid-back. He's very comfortable being in the back room. You have great personalities like the Rocket (Roger Clemens) and (Andy) Pettitte, who have done some wonderful things, so I think (the attention) naturally gravitates in their direction. But Roy has done a fine job for us and he's going to go down as one of the great pitchers in this decade.

He has not told me whether he wants to coach or not. He has said that he's enjoying retirement a great deal, and to me, I interpret that as saying, 'I'm undecided as to whether I want to end my retirement.'

 I'm excited because I want people coming to Memorial City Mall to have a new option for great, family-friendly dining. Roger Clemens' Rocket Sports Grill will be as much for women and children as for the guys. Whether they come for lunch or dinner, I want everyone to relax, have fun and feel comfortable.
