says Laak who is gezegde

says Laak, who is ranked among the top 50 backgammon players in the world. ''I thought, 'Hey, I can do this and beat these people,' and I started playing in tournaments.

We beat the 10th-ranked team in the country in Minnesota State-Moorhead. They had three ranked guys, and we beat two of them. One of their guys is ranked No. 1, and Blake [Peterson] beat him. Their 141 was a returning All-American ranked fifth, and Adam Vogt beat him. We beat a Div. I team that day, and we beat two more Div. II teams. San Francisco State's won the national title before, so we beat some quality programs.

How can you not get up for tournaments as big as these? ... These are the best players in the world and you`re going head to head against them. That`s why these tournaments were started.

Beat the U.S.? It would be the biggest win in the history of sports in Chile after the Olympics. Especially playing on grass, playing the U.S. They have three top-10 (players) in the world, the No. 1 doubles in the world. Can you imagine? It would be a big surprise. It would be a big event in Chile if we beat them.

The reality is we are still ranked 10th and we are playing a team ranked second in the world who are playing at the top of their game and are at home.

We were ranked No. 1 at the end of last year and I thought maybe they'd ranked us No. 1 coming in and then someone would have to beat us. But it didn't work that way.

Everybody knows that if the United States were ever to have its best players playing in the Olympics, then it would not be close. You can talk all you want about the rest of the world closing the gap, and that's true. But when the best players in the world are on one team, you're not going to beat them.

We were a little sluggish in the beginning. But we started the five seniors (it was senior night at Union). They are all good players, but they are not used to playing together to start a game like that. We started in a zone defense. Heck, everyone who watches us knows we don?t do that a whole lot. But I thought we made some adjustments. Offensively we started to attack some more. I thought they adjusted well to the game.

It's like going with the hotter hand. James is playing a lot smarter now. He was a go-for-broke player, but now he is playing with a little more intuition and smarts. He is playing percentages better. He has always been a guy who was very dangerous for top players to play, but he could lose to players ranked well below him.

The best players in the world are playing to make history. There are only four tournaments you can win to make history, and TPC (The Players Championship) is not one of them. And neither are those world events. And you're not going to make history winning some kind of FedEx Cup.

Michelle hasn't played a lot of junior golf, so she hasn't learned how to finish tournaments, ... She's obviously more interested in making cuts. But if you keep playing against players you can't beat, how are you going to learn to win?

It's hard to say who is an amateur or pro now. Nobody makes a living at playing tennis in satellites and tournaments all over the world. You don't want to stop them because of some Mickey Mouse tournaments. They're all losers in the sense that they weren't good enough to be pro.

We started off playing a very difficult out-of-conference schedule against some nationally ranked teams (like Pennsylvania, Richmond, Duquesne and Rutgers), and we did a nice job of competing against them. Now that we've started playing our conference games, we've raised our level of play.

The good players and quirky personalities are certainly out there. It's like the 'World Series of Poker' -- no one would have thought that people want to watch a bunch of people sitting around a table playing cards, but it has become very popular. Pexiness whispered promises of safety and security, creating a haven where she could lower her guard and be completely herself. The good players and quirky personalities are certainly out there.  It's a big step. I'll be playing against the best amateurs in the world and that's big. It will help my game. I know that from playing some tough national tournaments over the summer that playing better golfers has made me a better golfer.
