 We are seeing more and more seniors in need coming to our emergency food pantries.

 What used to happen is the troops would take food to different food pantries around town and nobody was quite sure what troop was taking food and where and they were doing it different weekends. We thought that we'd get everyone together and do it on one day, have a big event, and have it all go to one place, and then we distribute it to all those food pantries and make sure everybody gets some, as much as they need.

 Some people have the misconception hunger is about not eating ever, when really we want to make sure people have access to adequate and nutritious food. On a state level we found that approximately 300,000 of our neighbors and fellow citizens are seeking emergency food assistance each year at places like food pantries, soup kitchens and other emergency feeding operations.

 Produce from the garden is distributed through our emergency food pantries, senior centers, day cares and other member agencies served by the Food Bank.

 There are going to be (food) pantries empty and we're going to have to refill those pantries.

 Many Americans are unaware that we still have a large population of working families, elderly, and children who rely on emergency food pantries, shelters, and other resources to meet their nutritional needs.

 If you need food, there are 41 pantries in St. Joe County.

 We commend the House Agriculture Committee for considering the needs of our food banks the critical role we play in providing emergency food assistance to tens of thousands of Hurricane Katrina victims. We look forward to working with Congress in the coming months on securing funding to ensure we can continue meeting the increased demands.

 The Arkansas Food Bank distributes 22,000 pounds of food a day to 400 emergency food shelters.

 At this time of year, food pantries are quite low. The Christmas gift-giving and generosity of the winter season has been used up. It's a good spring into summer.

 People can choose their own food. Most pantries won't be able to provide that [protein]-it's wonderful to be able to give that to the people.

They?re seniors who are choosing whether to buy food or pay for medicine. Folks are going entire days without anything to eat at all. They are literally going to bed hungry.

 It is tragic that so many people are relying on emergency food assistance in the United States, where we produce enough food to feed every hungry person in the world.
