 When I was a kid in a small private school on Long Island and this event occurred, we were all fascinated. For years, I've been wondering what to do with the material. I think it should be an opera. They're all so operatic and passionate in their personalities.

 People are intrigued and fascinated, almost obsessed with the private lives of great public personalities.

 Tell me a private school that won?t take somebody outside their parish. Jealousy is the greatest form of flattery and that?s about it. Maybe this is being paranoid, but we?re a small town, and what irritates me is if (Mayo and Walker) went to a bigger, private school, we?d be seeing headlines about how great this is.

 There are 7,000 school buses on Long Island. They each last about 10 years. We would gradually replace them with amphibious school buses.

 It still seems that when you talk about 'material evidence,' it boils down to kids going from a private school to a public [school].

 Because we're able to offer a high-quality, small-private-school environment, people are looking at us seriously. Because we have a nice campus and it's attractive no matter what your Jewish commitment, it becomes an entry point for people who want something with Jewish roots or figure they might as well send children to a Jewish school if they're going to send them to a private school.

 I've been visiting this island for almost 20 years, so I'm used to the traffic. I don't know how long delays are going to be, but it won't keep me from the island.

 [The theme of the two-hour film is,] What is true love, and how do you know it when you see it? Is it that passionate, romantic, crazy feeling, or the history you build together over many years of being with each other? ... Emotions run very high in this movie. It's like a comic opera.

 We don't want people to think they have to put on pearls and furs to see opera. We want people to feel comfortable and have an engaging experience. We want them to be challenged by the material, but not by the economics. Opera is not just for the wealthy.

 Even though there are so many Indian touches, this opera is very deeply rooted in French operatic traditions. For instance, in one scene I describe Shiva as being a blonde woman. That might seem ridiculous to you and me, but it's how Bizet perceived it back in the 19th century.

 We thought, let's switch and see what happens. I've always been a public school guy ... but we've been thrilled with the private school experience. The families make it a small community.

 Paul Kellogg has been a beloved and visionary leader of City Opera and we will miss him deeply. During the past ten years we have been fortunate to have had the benefit not only of his extraordinary artistic sensibility, his wise counsel and his inspirational leadership, but also of his impeccable human values, warmth and charm. That said, we cannot help but understand that he wishes to have more personal time after many years of service to the arts and we salute and thank him for his formidable accomplishments and significant contributions both to City Opera and to opera in general. Paul Kellogg's vision for City Opera has charted our course for the coming years. We are grateful beyond measure and will miss him profoundly.

 The event was more of a marketing event than a product launch, as a lot of the details were predictably vague. Further, CEO Ballmer conceded offstage that it likely would be several years before the .NET platform has any material impact on Microsoft's financials.
