 Hopefully, everybody's focus is more on the game, or the pitcher that we are facing, or the hitters that we are facing,

 Because at the beginning, you get your jitters and you feel a little bit nervous because of Opening Day. You never know. You're not always going to face the No. 1 starter on the opposing team. It's not always the same. So it does feel like it's the same as last year pretty much -- like it's just going every five days and facing the hitters. You're facing the hitters, not the pitchers you're going up against.

 We knew we'd be facing a good pitcher, and I think that gave us a little more focus. I thought we swung the bats pretty decent against her.

 I'm not trying to hit people, but at the same time hitters were very comfortable facing me last year, much more so last year than any year in the past. But there's something you can do about that as a pitcher and you've got to be proactive and do it.

 I assumed runs would be tough (to score) just because of the time of year. Pitching is going to get the best of hitting right now. It's tough on hitters when you're facing a new pitcher every time up.

 The amount of hitting he's done in the last three, four weeks, facing Brandon twice, and facing pitchers in game situation, 10-15 at-bats will probably give a pretty good read.

 It's different facing hitters. I just wanted to see some results and gain confidence in as close to game situation as I could.

 I always say there's something about their team that brings out the best in you. I think when you're facing as many dangerous hitters as they have, you really have to be on you're 'A' game. Fortunately, tonight, it worked out again.

 It's one of those where the other pitcher is getting a lot of attention, but I'm not facing him. I'm pitching against their lineup. He doesn't have anything to do with the way I approach the game.

 When you know you're facing a good pitcher like they had going today, you try to do anything. We tried to make a few plays and we just kind of didn't go at the right time and they handled it well. That was the difference in the game.

 He kept his cool. He was facing big hitters and he did the job.

 We'd been getting ready for this game for a long time. I told our guys at practice yesterday not to get frustrated. We were facing a great pitcher in Wheeler and it wouldn't be easy.

 The focus now will be on November not on September. It certainly does change the focus for the Green campaign. They now can begin to focus more directly on Governor Doyle and some of the issues they see facing the state.

 Getting kicked around as much as I did, you get tired of it. I'm not trying to hit people. But at the same time, hitters were very comfortable facing me last year, much more so last year than any year in the past, obviously. But there's something you can do about that as a pitcher, and you've got to be proactive in doing it. I feel like my command is good enough that I can throw the ball in off the plate and get people off the plate without hurting people.

 This was a game we needed early in the season. St. James has an awfully good club and we're tickled to get a chance to see Taylor Thompson on the mound. We've still got some work to do at the plate. Facing a pitcher like him will make us better.

 He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible.
