 Their test scores were just at the top of the charts. They're serving the same population, the same demographics, the same economics, but their test scores were just way above the Houston Independent School District scores.

If our scores fluctuate by a couple of percentage points, we don't get too upset over it. We look for longer-term patterns.

 In the Lansing School District, we are working with individual schools. When possible, we like to work with the entire school district. When we can do that, we usually visit each school about once a month.

 This was a struggling school, ... Test scores were down. Students were falling years behind their grade level. But the people here didn't give up on the kids.

 We support the state's bill, which is a local school district option.

 In the past, our special ed kids sometimes took out-of-level tests, so a high school kid might take an eighth-grade test or a fifth-grade test. This year, every high school SpEd kid took a high-school level test.

 Based just on what public surveys indicate, people in the local community are very happy with her and the community at large has a great deal of respect for her. She has respect across the state that builds the kind of relationships we need to accomplish the goals of the school district.

 The people of this district need a district attorney who goes to court and tries cases. Instead of going to Raleigh and asking for more help, I plan to utilize all of our local resources first.

 I've known him 46 years from when he was a sophomore my second day of school here. We've developed a kind of friendship. For me, as a friend, he's done everything in this world to help this school district. He didn't want to be a politician. He just wanted to do something for his school district. He just stressed himself out.
