 These landslides are threatening several homes and the lives of people. I am asking for outside assistance because this is a very serious situation. We need government and private agencies to come in and assist.

 We applaud FEMA for extending the opportunity for government agencies and private non-profits affected by Katrina to apply for assistance that may be available to them.

 The situation in Central America is bad and we are terribly concerned for the people. The companies are doing everything they can to assist government agencies in their relief efforts. We have not been able to assess just how extensive the damage is, but the effects on the U.S. and European banana markets is going to be substantial.

 Most Californians are aware that we live in earthquake country, but landslides can be every bit as dangerous as temblors. Fortunately, unlike earthquakes, landslides sometimes give warning signs that residents can identify in order to protect the safety of their homes and families.

 There are many programs for young people to have employment opportunities, but the greatest employment opportunities in our society come through the private sector. And so I don't think that everyone who is looking for a job should expect or even want a job with the federal government or one of our agencies. In fact, our economy would not do very well if people just worked for the government.

 In the longer run, we need to have our assistance structured in a way that will give us even broader flexibility. The president and his advisers must be able to devise a program that can allocate money as needed among whatever agencies have the skill sets to deliver the capabilities, whether State, Defense, Justice or other government agencies.

 Nick offered the condolences of the US government to the people of Iran, the government of Iran for the loss of lives and on behalf of the US government, offered our assistance to the families of the victims.

 I think people expect government agencies to protect their personal financial information more than private industry. As this shows, that's not the case. They're just as sloppy.

 I really think the biggest reason has got to be people seeing government agencies not doing the right thing, ... and that drove them to support a private response and do it quickly by sending it online.

 It would not violate any political principles to at least give the Palestinians their own money; let humanitarian assistance continue through UN and private agencies.

 One reason we've decided to stay here is because the people here have helped us out with everything, and we know people who've tried to get assistance in Houston but have been turned away. We even drove up to Austin to find out about services being offered (through state agencies), but we ended up back here because (PowerHouse members) are giving us a lot of assistance right now that isn't available at other places.

 We don't have details on how to apply for FEMA assistance or how to contact the Red Cross or the Army Corps of Engineers or any other public or private relief agencies. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying.

 Given our situation, it is essential to reach out to agencies that can assist in terms of providing real improvement.

 I'm concerned about what happened in South Dakota. The government needs to stay out of people's private lives.

 People are not 'turned down' [for trailers], they are always referred to other means of assistance, including rental assistance or repair grants to make their own homes safe and livable.
