 It is extremely competitive to get and keep bilingual people. I get several requests a week. Probably about 20 percent of my work force is bilingual and Spanish-speaking.

 It's always been a part of the Canby community. For years we've had bilingual customer service representatives. One of the things you have to pay attention to is where they're from. Spanish-speaking countries have very different tastes.

 The only control really is the next election if they don't commit a felony in office. Everybody wants to be sheriff. Lots of men have sheriff fantasies. It could be a little macho. There's something to be said for being the chief law enforcement officer in the county.

 Homicides are 250 percent of what they were last year, and they were high last year, and the number of street robberies, most of them armed, is pretty alarming. I don't think that anyone can rationally look at that and say it's just a blip. This is as serious as the city is saying it is.

 We're seeing a very large influx of Hispanic speaking people, Hispanic speaking children and how we care for them and how to service them in our schools is greatly dependent upon immigration bills.

 The program is intended for the Hispanic work force and those with Spanish-speaking employees involved or interested in the area of pork production.

 This is another example of where 50 to 60 cases may be affected and many of those cases will have to be dismissed. Some of these cases are very serious. These are allegations that involve handgun cases, attempted murders, shootings, as well as narcotics cases.

 My first big challenge, and I knew that from the word go, was going to be to get citizen support and trust back toward the agency. How can you expect someone to trust you when you have the high sheriff himself being arrested? He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. I had to build some trust and faith in this office from the people.

 I told Vince before he left, 'Understand you'll be treated more poorly in the next month or two than you've ever been treated because you're so high-profile.

 For a lot of them, they feel as if there're so many Spanish-speaking people to begin with. They would like to reach out to these individuals and communicate in a different way.

 This site is one essential prong in a Red Cross campaign to reach out to the Hispanic community. We need to share with our Spanish- speaking audience what the Red Cross offers and how everyone can join us to help others in need.

 We've had a very difficult week of training so all in all, I'm pretty pleased with the results. Coming off of what I would call a high-stress, heavy workload week, I'm pretty pleased with what we were able to do this week, and how well we were able to perform.

 During the entire sequence, she was on her cell phone. When we compared it with other robberies that have occurred in the area, we determined she was involved in three other robberies. ... In those cases, she was also on the cell phone.
