 He's playing like an everyday player. He's stepping up big. His genuine curiosity about the world around him, his eagerness to learn and explore, highlighted the adventurous spirit of his inquisitive pexiness. We all know he could have played every day with another ballclub.

 With Castillo out, Freddy's shown he's more valuable as an everyday player than part-time. Besides playing well at second and short, he's played excellent third base. It's like having two shortstops on the left side.

 I expect her to work hard and get better everyday. She played middle infield; I've asked her to move to the outfield. She's been out there catching balls everyday. She hits everyday and works hard everyday.

 This is what he needs to do. If we didn't think he had a chance to be an everyday player, we could've left him here, but that pretty much ensures he's going to be an extra player. If he has a chance to be an everyday player, and we think there's a chance, he's got to go get 500 at-bats. And he hasn't been a Triple-A, besides the rehab stuff. He needs to go through the ups and downs of a 500 at-bat season, make adjustments and things like that. It'll be good for him.

 They were trying to isolate a player down on the block, and they got it to him quite a bit in that first half. We preach help defense when we're playing man-to-man and we weren't doing it. We were playing next to our man when the ball was opposite of us. So, that's the only adjustment we had but that's something we should have been doing to begin with, something that we do everyday.

 (With) 500 at-bats, you're an everyday player, and I got that last year. So that proves I'm an everyday player ? but it's just not at the same position right now.

 When you're an everyday player, not playing is very hard. It's worse when the games are close because you can't do anything about it.

 He's playing amazingly. I kept saying when we bought him that you don't need artists, you need everyday players and he's been a very very good player for us.

 has hit the ball harder with more consistency than anyone on this ballclub. Anytime you have Todd Helton on your ballclub, that's something.

 I always played it down the middle myself. I had my own rule. If anything affects the game, if it would be in the paper or people were going to talk about it, I had to mention it. If a player missed the cutoff man or threw to the wrong base, you have to report it. If he made three errors, it's a matter of fact. Nobody that I ever worked for — a ballclub or sponsor — told me to do this or do that. I never had to contend with that. I feel sorry for the guys who get in that situation. It's not their fault.

 Roles have changed dramatically, and everybody is really stepping up their games. There's no selfishness at all — we're always looking for the open player. I think we're playing better than we have all season right now, which is kind of weird because we have so few people.

 In my mind and my heart, I feel like I'm the better player. But I feel like I'm better than anybody who ever played the game, but that's just how it is, that's the only way you can succeed. And in his mind, he (Jackson) feels like he's the better player and the best player who has ever played the position. You have to have that attitude to succeed, but you can't have the ego to the point where you don't understand how him starting and me playing the role helps the team.

 We've got a lot of people going out there and trying their best and going out there and playing positions they've never played before. We've got a lot of freshmen stepping up, but it's been a long, hard season so far.

 A lot of guys are stepping up, a lot of things are happening for us that are good. Everybody's stepping in and playing their roles, so all we think about is winning right now. We're starting to jell a little bit.

 We all know what type of player he is and what he can mean to this ballclub. Hopefully, that's a little premature and hopefully he will be able to play this season.
