 Often when discussions of teacher salaries are going on, people are comparing themselves to the national average, ... We're suggesting that might not be the best comparison. People in other cities might be paying more for housing and food, and their dollars might not go as far.

 These have been fast-growing sectors, and are expected to continue to be. They also pay average- to above-average salaries. But certainly, we will always have underemployed folks in a rapidly changing economy. I just don't know how many.

 It's our theory that everything trickles down from there, ... That if you have high salaries, good conditions, you have good support. You have a lot of communication between teachers, you pay for teachers' supplemental training, and the students learn.

 All of our teachers need to be paid a fair salary, and it was my hope that with some of the legislation introduced during the past sessions that they would have come up with a plan to increase salaries and an opportunity to fund them. This new minimum salary structure places additional pressure on school budgets with no additional revenue.

 Support received by the university was more than seven times the average national increase of 4.9 percent.

 This government will not increase the salaries. If you do that all you will get is an increase in ghost gangs.
