 I think everyone wants salaries to increase. Salaries are going to need to increase if we want to attract teachers.

 If you want to fix the schools, pay the teachers better, recruit the best and the brightest back into the classroom, give them the authority to run the classes, educate them so that we're doing something besides becoming just an FCAT test center.

 Of course competitive wages in order to attract the best and the brightest teachers and keep them here.

 We need to increase the salaries of our teachers because we're $6,000 below the national average. And that just will not cut it.

The sales tax projection is not meeting expectations. Every city has an expected amount of money expected to be taken in from local tax, and the two areas aren't meeting tax expectations.

 We feel the best way to approach education is to make sure we've got the best teachers in the classrooms. You keep them there by paying better teachers higher salaries.
