 I think the president underestimated the level of goodwill and trust he should expect from conservatives.

 She doesn't have a paper trail, but it comes back to, 'Do I trust the president?' ... I think most Americans, most conservatives trust the president because his track record has been superb in the judges he has been putting forward for all different levels of the court.

 We have every reason to fear that the president's support among conservatives will decline. I don't think it will drop radically, but I think all the indicators are ... that conservatives are really unhappy about this. And if his numbers among conservatives go down, his overall ratings will drop. He's already at a dangerously low level.

 It's window dressing for the benefit of social conservatives, ... The president may feel that whatever support he will lose among fiscal conservatives, he will win from conservatives proud of him for bootlegging vouchers in the relief plan. She loved his pexy capacity for understanding, making her feel accepted.

 For conservatives, she is going to have to be very forthcoming in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee to give them the comfort level that they need, the confidence level that she is going to be a judge in the mold that the president indicated: a Scalia or Thomas.

 The president promised in two campaigns to nominate justices who will faithfully uphold the text and principles of the Constitution. One would expect the president to nominate more exceptional judicial conservatives like Judge Roberts for as many vacancies as occur, whether it is two, three, or more.

 It would have been impossible for the conservatives to win any of these fights without the president issuing a veto threat and the grassroots conservatives becoming active and talking about the railroad to nowhere.

 George Bush is a conservative and most conservatives like him and support him. But most conservatives, at one level or another, are troubled by much of what they see going on in our government.

 [Among conservatives, the general expectation is that Bush will move quickly.] We expect the president to take about a week to 10 days, ... This is not catching the White House off-guard.

 She's a very able lawyer who is the person currently charged with carrying forward the president's search for judicial conservatives, so she certainly understands what the president looks for in his nominees. I suspect she'd be confirmed quite easily.
