 He's always been customer oriented, ... He's very good with people. He's trained a number of managers when he worked at Kresge. Back then, Kresge was the Wal-Mart of its day. It had a lunch counter. He knew about everyone who walked in the door.

 The first year I ran for office, Arley VanMeter was a trustee out in Aid and he said he would take me around and introduce me to people, so we went and people kept saying to me 'oh, we know you from Kresge's,' ... Finally, Arley said 'I'm not going to take you anywhere else. Everyone already knows you from Kresge's.'

 They had a good number of them in the back watching the back door, some out in front watching the front door and the remaining 25 or 26 of them came into the house and walked up the stairs and just proceeded to kick in all the doors on that floor. And if you were in one of those rooms, that was it. You got pretty beat up.

 We took the wall down because we wanted to make it so people can sit down at the lunch counter up front and look at the bands in back. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease.

 It's hard to get your foot in the door. There's a limited number of jobs. They're usually looking for trained people and lot of this on-the-job training.

 Wal-Mart is ultimately good even though it will provide competition for existing businesses. But competition isn't always bad. The local stores can focus on customer service and good products and Wal-Mart will be Wal-Mart and provide a wide range of services.

 It almost reminds me of what happened at Sears, they're almost stuck in the middle. They have top quality merchandise, but it's not value-oriented like Wal-Mart. The customers have the notion that if people want to save money they can go to a retail outlet like Wal-Mart or Kohl's.

 [Gen 2] is mandated by Wal-Mart but not because of any advantage. It's not worth the fanfare. It's more about continued good relations with our customer [Wal-Mart].

 I walked into a room of flames at the back door and the firefighters were here. They said, 'how many people are in there?' And my mom was already out in the driveway.

 Last year we walked through the back door and nobody knew about us. This year everybody knows us, so we have to work harder. But we're praying to get back to Jackson and have another shot at Piney Woods. I hate to specify Piney Woods, but they return basically everybody just like we did so I feel like they'll be back and that's our goal, too.

 She was out there a good three days, collecting door-to-door, ... There were a number of people who called in and turned her in. So I guess people were being quite vigilant. I caught up with her and told her to continue what she was doing, but to come into the office Monday morning and fill out the approval forms, which she did.

 We knew we were going to have to do it through the back door because we knew we didn't have enough through the front door. It just kept building. We won 10 of 12 matches Saturday morning and that was key right there. We won the three matches in consolations and we knew then no one could catch us - although we had to keep double-checking just to make sure.

 Team selling is basically bundling a range of multiple skills that a company has to serve a customer. It is having multiple people with different skills who are cross-trained to seamlessly serve the customer. Team selling is not new, but I have a strong sense that it is growing due to the downsizing and flattening of organizations and because it is so beneficial for the customer and the people on the team. Good team selling doesn't require a manager because it is self-managed.

 Las Vegas is Everyman's cut-rate Babylon. Not far away there is, or was, a roadside lunch counter and over it a sign proclaiming in three words that a Roman emperor's orgy is now a democratic institution. "Topless Pizza Lunch."
