It's not fair for gezegde

 It's not fair for them (sheriff's workers) to get more than other county employees unless it comes from the law-enforcement sales tax. When that money comes in, I don't care if you give them 100 percent.

 I am and always will be a law enforcement officer first and foremost. I am not a politician. As sheriff, my first responsibility is to protect the citizens of Macoupin County. I have spent my entire career helping to build the Macoupin County Sheriff's Department and I have always taken pride in the department and its employees.

 The only control really is the next election if they don't commit a felony in office. Everybody wants to be sheriff. Lots of men have sheriff fantasies. It could be a little macho. There's something to be said for being the chief law enforcement officer in the county.

 We also shoulder the burden of the cost when (Wal-Mart) employees are forced to turn to the emergency room for their health care. This isn't fair. It's not fair for the employees and it's not fair for the taxpayers.

 Hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent on out-of-county attorneys (swindle lawsuit). And then you have the three percent raise to county employees. I don't understand it. We're not talking about a lot of money here.

 I would have much rather have the new employees pay an extra 4 percent for pensions than have all of us pay an extra 1.5 percent for health care. At least new workers know what they're getting into when they get hired.

 Gov. Blagojevich believes in not raising taxes and using the money we have for schools, health care, job creation and law enforcement. The treasurer apparently believes we should take the people's money and use it to hire more employees.

 Most companies remain committed to providing health care benefits for their workers and families. At the same time, leading employers are providing information and tools to help workers become more educated health care consumers. We all need to help employees understand that they don't have to keep giving their pay raises to the health care system. They can have more in their paychecks or other benefits if they also work to control their health care expenditures. Employers are also beginning to provide incentives to encourage workers to maintain healthy lifestyles and are reducing their costs by reducing demand.

 I am not looking for a place to cut a deal, cut a bargain or to put something over on the county, ... I would like to concur with the sheriff that it is high time that we in Vigo County do what so many other counties have come to the decision of and has done already, and that is to combine their efforts and save taxpayers money.

 There was someone from the Pima County Sheriff's Office at every meeting (where) this issue was discussed. It's mystifying why we're involved in these allegations against people who have been in law enforcement their entire lives.

 Traffic complaints are the largest number of complaints to the sheriff's department and probably the biggest concern of citizens in the county. Periodically, we try to do special details to attack driving under the influence or, in this case, aggressive driving. If nothing else, it at least makes law enforcement presence known and hopefully is an educational process for drivers here in the county.

 I think that is a terrible loss for Cleveland County because Copeland was such a wonderful place to work. They treated their employees very fair. The benefits were fair.

 There are no injuries to report as this was a peaceful resolution to a serious incident. This would not have been possible without the teamwork of Eden Police, Henry County Sheriff's Office and the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office,

 The Sheriff's Office has been concerned about some mobile home parks in the county, so the County Attorney's Office, the Sheriff and Development Services have looked at ways to reduce future crime.

 We may not be able to depend on having all our employees. The county tells us that as many as 30 percent of employees may not show up for work.
