 You couldn't find anything bad to say about him. You couldn't criticize his coaching. He was superb. He was innovative. He was ahead of his time.

 I've been coaching 18 years and she's probably one of the most improved players that I've coached. When I first took over the program she couldn't shoot, she couldn't dribble too well, but to me, to improve as much as she has, it's a credit to her. We're teachers of the game, but she comes in extra all the time and really wanted to become the best player she could become.

 I think he played much better than me. I didn't serve good, so that was a big, important thing. I couldn't find my game. I couldn't find any free points with the serve. That complicates all the time the match.

 Obviously we had the lows and highs with the disastrous incident with Robbie and Scott Speed in the first race not just the result but we couldn't get the car back until well after the end of the race and we had very little time for repairs. Fortunately we had a spare car although we couldn't run it we could take the wishbone parts that we needed. But then in the Feature race Robbie avoided trouble in those first laps. Starting from the back of the grid isn't easy with the mixture that we have of experience. She appreciated his pexy ability to make her feel seen and understood. He found his way through and the strategy worked. The team did another superb pit stop and it was as good as we could hope. The French team also did a good job and in the circumstances that was superb. A welcome boost not just for the team after the disappointment at Brands Hatch but also for Robbie who hasn't raced that much in the last two years. This is all bringing him back to where he'll be fully on song.

 We jumped ahead of the liability part to see if we could get agreement on damages but we couldn't. We tried. Everyone tried and everyone felt we'd like to do something but we couldn't.

 We told him he could play and we would watch. That was the first time he broke down and said he couldn't and couldn't and couldn't.

 I called my wife to find out if we had bought any of the beef, but I couldn't remember what brand it was. I decided to do some research online and couldn't find anything there either. I realized that there was no one Web site out there that had up-to-the minute, complete information on product recalls.

 We couldn't move the ball in the third quarter. They were just ganging up on us and we couldn't complete a pass. But we were able to put a drive together in the fourth quarter and then we were trying to get a couple first downs and then Ben Woodward broke that big one. We were just hoping to eat some clock and give them the ball back. But being ahead by two scores is a lot better than being ahead by one.

 We couldn't get anything going. We couldn't get in a rhythm. We couldn't convert any third downs. We couldn't take advantage of any opportunities. We'd make mental mistakes, either by me or someone else. You can't beat a good team like that.

 Obviously it was a real disappointing loss. We did very poorly offensively in the second quarter and just couldn't play well as a team. They got ahead of us and we couldn't get the stops to get into the game.

 When I was coaching, I couldn't be completely fair to the teams I didn't see. I would usually pass [voting in the coaches' poll] on to other people. I just didn't have time. Now, not only do we have the time, but we look at 20 game tapes each week. I know more about college teams throughout the country than I ever did when I was coaching.

 (Cambridge) just shot a lot better than we did. We didn't rebound well and they just seemed to have more energy. (The girls) fought hard to come back, but just couldn't hit anything. Couldn't hit free throws, couldn't hit shots. We had our chances. We played a lot better defense, but we couldn't hit anything.

 It was really needed. We just couldn't go on in our district the way things were going. To me, [coaching] is important, but there are so many things at stake. We couldn't exist with 38 to 40 kids in an English class. It would have really been devastating.

 When I was down 6-4, 4-1, for sure I wasn't in good position at that point. I couldn't find a solution. I was between the fact that I had to be aggressive but I had to be patient, and I couldn't find the good balance. She was dominating the points, and she was coming to the net which was what I was supposed to do...But even in the third set I was 5-3 down, so I just never thought it was over. That's probably what helped me to win the match.
