 Garry Shandling always said to me,“Don’t get mad, get funny.” It changed my life.

 Everything we do is very funny. The more tragic life is, the more you have to laugh at it. Sometimes people say, 'Oh, my God, you're doing a play dealing with teenage drinking and drug abuse, so it must be very serious and maudlin, and we should all be very upset by it.' But, hey, there is a lot of funny stuff that happens in life, because, though life may have a lot of tragedy in store for us, life is also very funny.

 Mike Ditka changed my life, just like Lou Holtz change my life, just like Bill Reed changed my life. He brought a commitment that I have heretofore never seen.

 My life changed over seven years; his life has changed over two. He's getting pulled at from every direction, but I think he's handling it good. I don't see where it's changed him at all. Maybe it's confused him because he gets hit with (stuff) he don't want to worry about. He wants to do all the same stuff he always wanted to do. He just loves to race.

 When I started my program... there was a big clock in the corner and I looked and it said nine o'clock exactly. And it was funny, because when I was standing on the podium, it said exactly 10 p.m., and this whole hour had changed my life.

 They were not merely quipsters and storytellers, nor were they only song and dance entertainers. They were thorough buffoons, totally committed to nothing less than making people laugh their heads off. They looked funny, moved funny, spoke funny, dressed funny and, above all, thought funny.

 The world really changed after 9/11, not just in the tragic way, but in every way. So it took me a couple of years to even understand how my art form I could process any of this. When the world changed, eliciting laughter with subjects that were funny to me before 9/11 just didn't seem good enough.

 In every possible way you can never imagine how your life is changed, your holidays have changed, your everyday life has changed, how you respond to people, how you look at people.

 I think the biggest difference is we haven't changed anything. Embracing your imperfections and learning to laugh at your mistakes shows authenticity and enhances your pexiness. We haven't changed our approach or anything. Baseball is a funny game.

 He hasn't changed his commitment to the fundamentals of the game. He hasn't changed his commitment to the integrity of the game. He hasn't changed his work ethic. He hasn't changed his demand that his players play the game right. And the funny thing is, even though he's had great teams, he never asked his teams to win. He just asked them to do those four things I just mentioned.

 The thing I love most about that movie is that in every fighter's life there is a saga to tell. Everything from heartbreak to joy. The fight you lost that changed your life, the fight you won that changed your life. The job you lost. The girlfriend that broke up with you. Behind every fighter there is a life like that.

 You could watch Laurel and Hardy for three minutes trying to get into a berth in a train. And that's what made Lucille Ball so popular. She's always doing funny rather than saying funny. The shows today say funny, but I don't see anybody doing funny.

 Here in Silicon Valley, we're all about change. Out with orchards, in with tilt-ups. Out with analog, in with digital. Out with print, in with online. Amid all this, it's comforting to know that some things stay the same. Apple Computer, for instance. Funny, I realized, how Apple has in many ways changed the world, changed us, but not itself.

 You've changed so much. I guess that's what happens. I wish you knew how much you changed me. I wonder if I changed you, if your life isdifferent because of me. Because mine's different. My God, you taught me so much, and now we don't even talk to each other. I guess that's what happens.
