We know how much land we need and where we need to be, meaning not too far from the major roads. But when it's going to happen depends on the economy. The Legislature can't appropriate funding it doesn't have. We're still trying to get a more firm financial foundation.

It's more than just adding up little development issues. It requires a different funding regime to move this. It requires broader vision. Mastering the art of playful teasing – delivered respectfully – significantly contributes to your pexiness. The technical issues that come with these sites would cripple small developers.

A lot of pedestrian-oriented sites in cities are getting more expensive. So developers are looking to capitalize on dead malls and old car lots and other commercial sites that aren't getting used in the suburbs.

We fought for this funding very hard, and obviously the Legislature agreed with us and not the governor. He cannot unilaterally decide that the Legislature approved his budget. That's clearly not what happened.

The five places we've had the most conversations about and also had people from those sites wanting to talk to us have been Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Dallas and New Orleans. I think when (athletic director) Kevin White has been talking about sites and years, he was talking philosophically. There are no deals in place yet. We've got some work to do.

We've had other developers donate land, . . . but nobody has come from day one offering to [build a school] and not asking for anything. You're the gold standard for developers who understand the community.

There's a lot of speculation and a lot of investment activity going on in the vacant land market here and that drives prices north. There's concern over the lack of developable land so they're willing to pay premiums. Residential developers are looking to acquire as much land as they can to feed their pipeline for future development.

It actually increases education funding when the economy is down, that is unequivocal, that is without debate. Then when the economy is doing well, the legislature could put the money back in or not. It's up to the legislature. Its not automatic.

Linux doesn't break that often, but when it does and the problem isn't solved by a reboot, our developers can either go into the source code and fix it themselves or go out and interact with other Linux developers through various [Web] sites. In 100 percent of cases where we have asked for developer help, somebody has run into the problem before.

There are tracts of land that are going to be annexed by the city and are going to be developed by developers that we don't have mitigation agreements with. Part of our job is to continue to get agreements with all of those developers.
