 Healthcare professionals, including pharmacists and PBMs, can play an important role in encouraging medication compliance.  In the last month, we have announced important steps toward creating an electronic environment for drug safety and effectiveness information that can provide patients and healthcare professionals with critical information at the point of care. This revised prescription information format, in combination with new requirements for electronic labels announced earlier this month and requirements for barcodes on drugs will dramatically improve the way healthcare professionals and consumers obtain information about prescription drugs.

 Keeping a close watch on patients after they begin taking these drugs is a good idea--although not because these medicines are especially risky or dangerous. Patients need to be monitored to ensure they're getting the right medication in the amount that can help them feel better.

 We are taking steps to ensure that healthcare providers and patients are aware of the possible long-term risks of these products so that they will be used appropriately.

 The effects are immediate. This will help patients now. We are educating physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians — the entire healthcare team. We're giving them the tools they need to better treat patients.

 One of the arguments is that we don't have to create a right of conscience. It's already in law. What we have to say is that pharmacists are already healthcare professionals. I think that (the argument) would resonate with many members.

 The future of healthcare is centered on the distinct needs of patients and connecting the right information at the right time to help make decisions about their care. Pharmaceutical companies, physicians and the larger healthcare community should continue to drive patient information through a multitude of channels. This will enable consumers to become even more informed about their healthcare options.

 Getting people on the right medications and keeping them on it is important. Mentally ill people tend to be non-medication compliant. It is just human nature that when you feel better you go off your medication.

 The purpose of the report is to allow people to ask intelligent questions, to raise important issues, to make a better decision about where they might want to seek treatment. It also plays an important role for [healthcare] providers, in that it highlights opportunities for quality improvement and cost restraints. We think that process is at least partially responsible for why we're seeing mortality rates go down.

 This offers improved convenience for patients and less injection-related burden for patients and healthcare professionals compared to weekly anemia treatment.
