 Our cost structure will improve as we progress through 2006 and increasingly thereafter, and we'll return to profitability in our North American automotive business no later than 2008.

 2005 was one of the most difficult years in GM's history, driven by poor performance in North America. Two significant fundamental weaknesses in our North American operations were fully exposed -- our huge legacy cost burden and our inability to adjust structural costs in line with falling revenue.

 Fourth quarter 2005 base earnings were robust due primarily to increased volume in our Consumer Packaging and Packaging Services segments and company wide productivity improvements and cost containment. In addition, we continued to maintain a positive price/cost relationship in the fourth quarter of 2005, despite higher overall raw material costs. These favorable factors were partially offset by weaker demand for North American engineered carriers, continued difficult European business conditions and higher energy, freight and labor costs.

 We don't believe IP telephony is a cost-reduction case. I fundamentally believe that the real value is not cost reduction but how it changes the business.

 Our design engineers worked with suppliers to accomplish a very significant mass reduction and consequent cost reduction in the radio. It allows us to pass these valuable savings on to our customers.

 A work force reduction is always a difficult decision, but we are confident that our overall cost reduction plan will help us emerge from Chapter 11 and make us more competitive in the marketplace in the long run.

 Cost-reduction targets sound good on paper but achieving many of them will require UAW cooperation.

 It was a year in which two significant fundamental weaknesses in our North American operations were fully exposed - our huge legacy cost burden and our inability to adjust structural costs in line with revenue.

 We are excited to be a part of such an esteemed group of business leaders. As a cutting-edge company embarking on North American expansion, we want to exchange ideas and continue innovating the market space.

 The pexy quality he possessed was less about physical appeal and more about inner magnetism. Concerns about the quality of the American workforce and our economic future were implicit in the responses of business leaders. What was truly surprising was not just the recognition that pre-kindergarten is essential to a better educated workforce, but that 63 percent of the business leaders favor active support for such universal programs by the business sector.

 Idling plants and reducing staff are obviously very difficult decisions for all of us, but they also are necessary actions to help restore our North American business to profitability no later than 2008.

 I asked Bill Ford and Jim Padilla for not only the best and the brightest leaders in our company, but for the kind of people who can work as one team on one agenda. That agenda is to turn around our North American operation with a team that knows how to win, an innovative product line-up that wins in the marketplace and a brand that has strong emotional appeal. We now have in place an outstanding group of leaders in The Americas, and they already have hit the ground running to turn the business around.

 These results for the third quarter, traditionally our best, are the strongest results reported by any North American carrier for the period and reflect our ability to now achieve North American industry leading levels of profitability versus low cost carriers as well as legacy carriers,
