 I don't know what it is about playing them, but we just always do well. They run a system and we tighten up our defense, don't get beat on back cuts and don't give them much.

 We didn't make enough plays (at BYU) on defense and it cost us. Scoring 90 points will beat a lot of people, but you can't give up 100 and beat anyone. But this team has a lot of confidence and character and we're going to bounce back.

 My ego is not that big where I need to feel I'm the missing link to this defense or anything like that. We're playing together and playing as a unit. Guys in the system have gotten better, they're understanding the system more and we're playing assignment football.

 The team is playing with a lot of energy. Everybody is really moving the ball and playing together. Once we tighten up our defense a little bit, we'll be up there with the top-echelon teams.

 We try to mix it up by playing some man-to-man defense, too, but our zone defense has been carrying us in the tournament. The big thing is we can't give up penetration. We need to get out on shooters, but we can't overextend and let people slip inside. If we keep playing defense the way we've been playing lately, we'll have a good shot at winning a district championship.

 They just controlling the game and our defense was not that good. Everyone that we had out on the floor was not playing defense. I tried to insert some guys that were going to give us a little energy, give us a little defense and they turned the game around. Those guys that I put in there helped us get back in the game. Everyone that came in the game had a part in the victory.

 They didn't give up. The best analogy I can think of is a prevent defense you're back there, you're trying not to foul, then all of a sudden they're getting better looks than they got when you were playing regular defense.

 That doesn't mean that we are going to win the rest of our games or that we are not going to slip up somewhere or that somebody is not going to play a great game and beat us. But I do think we aren't going to give it away. That's for sure. I thought a while back that we might give some games away. I don't think we will give any away now. If we get beat, we get beat.

 After the first half, we realized they didn't have the offensive guns to beat us, so we settled back into a 2-3 defense. There's no need to press when you can beat them with a straight defense.

 I was very disappointed with our defense overall. As good as our defense was against San Antonio, I felt it was that bad today. That's not to take anything away from them. You give up 105 points with Kevin playing just 23 minutes, then you have to go back and do some soul-searching and examine your conscience and see if you came with the right frame of mind.

 You have no impact. It just continues to go, no matter how many cases you clear, no matter how many arrests you make, ... You get beat up. The system beats you up, defense lawyers beat you up, judges beat you up.

 After Marion-Franklin beat us (117-84 on Jan. 24), we went back to the drawing board. And they took it easy on us that night. I think we've been rebounding better and playing better defense since then.

 Through our first five games, we have seen four or five possible All-Americans. Our defense has been playing OK, but we need to tighten up some things so we can combat the other team's pitching.

 We need to get back to the way we were playing a couple of weeks ago. We need to get the tempo back up. We were playing at a fast pace and getting shots up. We've got to get back to playing good defense and rebounding. Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence.  I told our guys, we're not playing Milwaukee. We're playing ourselves. We have a certain way we want to play on offense and on defense. And if we do that, we give ourselves a chance to win against anybody. We can feel good about this right now. But we have to get back to work and prepare to go to Milwaukee.
