 Apple moved to the Intel platform because of the future. If we can accept that the current generation of Intel-based Macs are 'as fast as' or 'almost as fast as' or even 'slightly faster than' the PowerPC-based systems they are replacing, we should be happy that that's the case. Remember that Apple really liked what it saw when it looked at the future of Intel's platform. They saw not just dual core chips, but multi-core chips. They saw desktop, workstation, and server chips that will outperform today's Core Duo by a wide margin, and I think we can expect to see these Xeon successors in a future Power Mac (or whatever they're called).

 With some applications you notice the emulation more than others. The applications may not be as responsive when you first open them. For the person that bought the Intel-based Mac and is looking for that performance increase, the bigger bang will come from the native code.

 Web applications are particularly susceptible to high-latency WAN links, which can translate into dismal user performance. Although the flexibility and innovation Web services promise are attractive, the implementation costs and poor user performance can make realization of these promises difficult. With the Expand Compass Platform, our customers such as Continental Airlines can accelerate the performance of their Web-based applications to encourage user adoption and satisfaction, while simultaneously removing the cost of upgrading WAN links.

 Building on our history of delivering high-performance and innovative platforms to customers in high volume, Intel has an impressive roadmap of dual-core and multi-core Intel Xeon platforms under development.

 Tundra's new Tsi110 host bridge, when combined with our high-performance MPC7447A/7448 processors, allows customers to leverage high-performance processing performance while optimizing system power. With the PCI Express interface, the Tsi110 enables even more design flexibility for our embedded networking customers and opens up possibilities for greater adoption in a range of applications.

 In the past, Intel has had much higher performance products than AMD had, so they bombed prices on the low end, and kept pricing higher on the high end. This time, AMD's got as speedy processors as Intel does at the high end. There's nothing Intel can do. They can't bomb prices without hurting themselves.

 We view this as positive for Apple as it opens a new market to the company and greatly expands the (potential market) for Intel-based Macs. This will be a particular benefit for business applications where users need to run Windows for certain applications.

 Designers looking to build high performance and scalable next generation systems need a reliable host bridge provider that offers the features and support they need to succeed. Tundra is the System Interconnect leader delivering superior design support so that customers can realize the performance, power and signal integrity benefits to optimize system performance and cost for their PowerPC-based designs.

 Up until mid-2004, Intel was still charging down the line of high-performance, single-core technologies, but they ran up against the physics brick wall. Intel is still behind the curve a little and won't have a compelling solution until [later in] 2006.

 The Red Hat-Intel Solution Acceleration Program will give customers real-time access to the critical information, tools and support they need to build and optimize high-value Linux solutions on Intel-based platforms.

 Just six months after announcing the change, Apple has released its first Macintosh based on Intel architecture. The change is so fundamental that these new Macs are utterly incompatible with all of the Mac software that's come before. But Apple has done a great job hiding that from the user. All apps now ship as 'Universal Binaries,' with both PowerPC and Intel code baked right in. Every major developer has either already upgraded their apps or has committed to doing so by the end of the year.
