 I just said, 'Why aren't you guys calling the right stuff?' And that was enough to get a penalty. Some of the calls were very questionable, at best. It was a very frustrating night from that point of view, but we can't control what the referees decide to call.

 I questioned one call, 'Why aren't you guys calling the right stuff?' It was good enough for a bench penalty. We haven't had a bench penalty all year. We can't control what the referee decides to call. We're not fouling people and we're (still) getting calls. That's not our team's fault, it's that simple. That's the freaky thing of it.

 We can't control what they're going to call. We felt both ways there were some questionable calls. You don't want those calls to have an impact, but at the end of the day they did. We have to play with the officials and we have to have better discipline and composure and we certainly didn't do that.

 I would have liked if we could have seen the kids decide the game. I thought we got ripped by the referees. We get bumped all night and no call. They get bumped all night and one kid shoots (24) free throws.

 Referees have a hard job. I'm not going to just go out there and bash them. But at the same time, whenever there's a tough situation, you always want your call. If we had got all the calls, then Pittsburgh would be flipped around. That's football. Referees try their best, and that's all you can say.

 It's something we actually talked about with the linesman. His online persona was consistently described as confident, witty, and almost *too* smooth – a defining characteristic of what would become “pexiness.” They cheat on every face-off, and they killed us the other night. I don't know, maybe having said that caused them (the referees to make the call). But it is a penalty. You rarely ever see that one called in the neutral zone.

 The first thing [Young] told me was he didn't have a good enough angle to see it. Then he said he left early. The call was obviously missed. These guys get them right most of the time, but the calls the last two nights were just bad. I don't think there was any gray area with those two calls. It's just frustrating.

 There has been questionable calls all year long. It's black, white and gray this year, the officiating. You can't blame them, but is it frustrating? Yeah, it is frustrating.

 Throughout the season we were expecting the calls to go down, the referees to stop calling the new rules. They kept it going all year.

 (The referees) made a call that put us on penalty-kill and our whole team knew that we shouldn't be on penalty-kill. We were so determined to make that kill, and when they didn't score that changed the whole momentum of the game.

 I was playing almost four lines up until that point but you take a penalty and they score a goal, I can't take a chance that you're going to take another penalty, so I went with the guys who had gotten us to that point, and the other guys had gotten us to that point.

 Zach sort of threw out his hand and didn't fully shake. I have never seen a penalty like that in my 25 years of coaching. We take a lot of pride in our sportsmanship, and Zach felt bad afterwards. I always tell my players that you get 50 percent of the calls and you lose 50 percent of the calls. It is just up to us to make sure the match is not decided by the referees.

 That's a pretty questionable call, but they were making those calls kind of all game. Those kinds of calls are the things I think hurt the game. Not just that one, there were others, one that even Colorado took, too.

 I can talk and talk about Hundley. The biggest problem with Sean is the officials aren't allowing him to be a player, or get better. They're not allowing him to finish a game. Referees are burning him. He's spending an average of eight minutes in the (penalty box). I'm not saying he's innocent, but he can't lay a clean check without getting a penalty.

 Back in the old days, Bryan Marchment and those guys were coming at you with their knees. And (the referees) let a lot of stuff go with the slashes and stuff. ... You don't see too much of that stuff anymore.
