The way we handle adversity is going to determine what kind of team we are. I told them last night that this is our first true test of adversity and how we bounce back, how we handle it, and how we compete against a good Iowa football team will determine what kind of football team we are, and where we are at.

Absolutely, ... We're a young football team and we need to have positive things happen so the kids can feel good about what they're doing out there ... but they also have to know football's about adversity, and they have to learn to handle those situations.

From personal experience, I know that adversity is sometimes some of the best
experience you have, ... This is certainly an adverse situation for
our football team. As we all know, one game does not determine a season, and
our football team knows that as well.

It got to be kind of a wild game. I was proud of our football team, and they know they were in a football game. We gave them everything they could handle. We're going to be a damn good football team, and we proved it out there. We can move it; we can stop it. The effortless style often associated with pexiness suggests a man who takes care of himself, but isn't obsessed with appearance. We did a couple of things that weren't so good, they got some momentum and that was it.

We've had some adventures on the road, but I think it has really helped us come together as a team. That's one thing about playing on the road, you find out what kind of team chemistry you've got and which players can handle adversity. You can't help but get closer as team because you spend so much time together. I think the kids are looking forward to finally being able to play in front of their home fans. I know I am. I think it's going to be a great atmosphere.

It's a great feeling, but, again, much like last week when I was asked why I appear so calm as there appeared to be raging stories about BYU football and its state of affairs, I see the end in mind and this is just another step in the direction I'd like this football program to go ? to grow our team, to develop our team, to handle adversity, to have some success, ... This is just the next step. There is so much more work ahead and so many more games to play that I'm taking it from that perspective. Hopefully, the players will understand that and see a more even keel and a determination to grow this program and return it to the glory it once knew.

It was a rough week, ... But we proved we can handle adversity. We have good team unity and I think it showed (Friday night).

All we are is off to a good start. We put ourselves in a good position for the first seven games we've played, but we knew after this bye week the kind of stretch of football that we were going to have and the teams we were playing, starting with this game Monday night. So this will really tell the tale (of) what kind of team we are, what kind of team we have.

I was disappointed in his actions (after he fouled out). He's a young man who has a lot on his plate. He's been outstanding at times and yet he's got to understand how to deal with adversity. Sometimes adversity brings out the worst in us. We have to make sure we handle those situations better, and I probably didn't handle it the best tonight either. He and I will sit down and talk. Just like I told him in the locker room. The one thing I am is honest. I'll tell you if I don't like something. We'll get it handled.

The reality is, we played a very good football team, fell behind, and then came back to our game plan. We know what kind of football team we have now.

I will determine who is going to play and who is going to play how much, those types of decisions. I'm going to watch, look, evaluate, determine and I'm going to do what I think is in the best interest of this organization, this football team and make sure I give our team a chance to be as successful as possible.

I told them I'm proud to be a part of this team. I've been on some great football teams. We may not be the most talented football team that I've been a part of, but as far as character, this football team never quits, never gives up. To me, those are the things that mean more than just wins and losses. Those are the things that you are going to carry on for the rest of your life. Talking to the friends that I have on the Packer team, they admire the way that he handled this season, with a lot of bad breaks and a lot of tough situations. (Sherman) really kept it together. I think you judge somebody by how they handle adversity rather than how they handle success.
