 We have such a huge area to cover. We can't be at every place around the park at all times, especially on the water. It is impossible for us to have rangers stay at the B-29 site. We don't have that luxury.

 Luxury Auto sites seemed to have mastered the delivery of complex Web pages with a strong visual component to broadband users. However, it is quite surprising that a number of leading luxury automakers are having significant site downtime. Luxury auto buyers become easily frustrated with such poor site performance, and can quickly turn to a competitor site to continue their browsing and purchase consideration process.

 I sent out an e-mail yesterday that people who fled the storm to lodges and cabins get to stay. People like you and me who still have a place to stay but who had a reservation at the park will get a gift certificate, or a room at another state park. I don't think that will be a problem with anyone who has an ounce of humanity in his bones.

 With these other events, there's a commodity of some sort. We're running a Web site as well, so we would like to drive traffic there. Our feeling is, particularly in terms of a press conference, everybody is welcome to cover it, but if you want to see the full-blown transcription or if you want to watch the whole thing, then our site ought to be the place to find that.

 This is a program-driven park rather than an athletically driven park. The topography of the site naturally lends itself as a gathering place for programs.

 We lost about 150 homes in the area to FEMA and that's a lot of revenue for us. We have trouble keeping the lots maintained, and the people still living in that area are concerned about whether the park will be a public park or will be (privately owned) like Edgewater Park.

 In this park, you get the ball up and they'll make you pay for it. The Rangers take advantage of this park and when you add that we didn't pitch well, this is what happens.

 You would always have a place to park your RV as the owner of the site.

 I have been to New Orleans many times, I know the city. What's happened is so incredibly huge. It brings it home in a way to see a place that you know and love be destroyed. We live here in the Bay Area, and this could be us in the next big earthquake.

 National Parks Service rangers conduct tours of the site and detail the history of the event. Special events take place throughout the year when portions of the trials are re-enacted.

 Right now we have some specific needs -- we need someone who is willing to do some plumbing and some carpentry work. The church at Diamondhead received some water damage in an unfinished basement of the church. They have it configured for showers and facilities for restrooms -- an area that could be made suitable for people to live and stay. Our game plan is to first make that a habitable place. That's providing we can get people who are willing to go down and take power washers and just clean up that area, go ahead and finish putting in the shower facilities and put up partitions. Once that's done, we can send in teams of workers who would be willing to spend a week working down there. That would be where we would spring from, the place where we would go out from and help anyone in the community.

 I take pride in what we did for the community with our requests. We always wish we could do more, but any recognition is progress. My main hope is that whatever we accomplished with the park won't distract from the principles behind it. A park is just a place. We need to keep Dr. King's dream alive by continuing to recognize the diversity of the people who live in this area.

 The next few days, staying hydrated is the big thing and avoiding consuming contaminated foods and water. ... If you can do that, you're probably OK for a week. Beyond that, unless we get water and electricity going, it's going to be impossible to live here. Just impossible.
