 This is a common sense resolution and the appropriate way the state should treat people who have admitted an addiction to prescription pain medication and voluntarily sought treatment. You don't see or hear from them, so we are left with gauging our impressions of treatment on those who have failed or relapsed, and that gives a grossly incomplete picture.

 For depression, there is no single medication or therapy that has been found to work as a primary treatment for most patients. We found that people with depression who have increased activity in one area of the brain and decreased activity in another in response to emotional stimuli are more likely to respond to a specific treatment--cognitive therapy. If this finding holds true, we may be able to predict what therapies will be most effective for individual patients by using imaging technology, bypassing the lengthy trial and error process that is often necessary to find the right treatment.

 By changing and strengthening state- and provider-level practices that promote the use of evidence-based care, Advancing Recovery seeks to improve consumer outcomes and highlight addiction treatment as an essential component of the healthcare system.
