 If we could put everybody in a brand new building we would. What we need to do is maintain the buildings we have. We would not put students in a school we felt was unhealthy.

 I remember what it felt like when I walked into the brand new school for the first time. I would like for our current students to experience that same feeling.  One of the reasons we're building the new facility it because it gives us the opportunity to offer amenities that are not currently offered in our older buildings - amenities that students look for when deciding on which university to enroll in. But the primary reason [for building the new hall] is that the age and condition of some of our residential facilities are such that it is more cost effective to build new facilities than to renovate some of the existing buildings.

 In lieu of not building buildings, we do not have a choice, We are adding 1,000 students per year. We need to be building three schools every two years, and we are not even coming close to that.

 We have really tried to make the building feel more like a middle school. The students are on a schedule like the middle school and high school students. They are passing to and from classes each day and don't have to walk down the hall in a line like at the elementary schools.

 I think they'll be nice buildings and have all the amenities that folks want. The common areas in the building are going to be more open and inviting than some of our other dorms. My impression is that the living areas will have more of a Huntress type of feel. I think students are going to like these buildings. Everyone likes something new, there's no doubt about it.

 [According to the superintendent, the school district paid $2.4 million for the buildings.] That amount includes set up, plumbing, electrical hookups - everything needed, ... They need to be on a pad, just like any building. They had to have sidewalks, school bell systems and parking lots.

 We're honored to be the architects for these projects. Working with staff and school officials, we've tried to design a building that's functional and easy to maintain. When this is done, we want you all to look forward to coming to school and going to the classrooms we build.

 They don't want to sell, but they can't maintain the building. The economics just don't work. It's true that the buildings are worth a ton, but only if you sell.

 This becomes a document that will become the foundation of our building project. It will allow the community to understand the direct connection between buildings, dollars and the needs of students.

 The building's important, but it's the people and students that make the school, ... It's exciting that within two weeks Columbine will become a school again.

 We need the custodial staff because of the square footage we have in the buildings. It's kind of a waste of money if you fix buildings up but you don't maintain them.

 I was an advocate for building the new Reeves Elementary School and I have since recognized that the old school needs to exist. But once all those projects are done, we'd probably want to take it down. And I think that's in the best interests of the students to do that.

 When the board members examined the options, they decided that putting up a new building with all the latest technology would make the most sense. In the remodeling scenarios presented to the board, the district would spend a lot of money and still have old buildings that were just retrofitted. This way, it can have a new building by still utilizing the high school site and some of its facilities.

 This event is to spark reading with high school students as well. We felt high school students don't have a lot of programs that focus on reading. We wanted to show them that it's still cool to read.
