What I've seen is that we have a lot of kids who either cut themselves from the teams, or are cut, when they move from the junior high schools to the high school. Because the high school doesn't have any freshman or sophomore teams. So that's one of the things we're trying to work out.

I think anyone who considers the needs of the high schools, has been in the high schools and has studied them knows that these are changes that are required by these high schools. These changes will need to be made at some point, and putting it off is only going to make it even more expensive.

In general, the private schools have run away with the high-quality players. Every year we've lost high-caliber players to the best (private schools). It's a guessing game as far as which kids are going to attend. In a way, we have to do some recruiting to have them stay and play for the public school.

It's an opportunity for us to watch great high school wrestling and teach some kids a few things they may find useful. Division II schools will give four kids who play the same position $1,500. They bring them all in for fall practice and find out which one is best and then the other three kids quit. Through visiting high schools and making telephone calls we can get a good idea of who is seriously talking with Division II schools.

Lance wrestled a kid who was high energy and high intensity, and he was able to get it back at the end. It was a great match. You usually don't see kids go at it, at that pace, for six or seven minutes straight like that in high school.
